Shaylynn reaches over to her bedside table, feels underneath it for a series of buttons, types in a code and a secret door opens revealing her Sig Sauer (her main sidearm).
She takes it from the compartment and quietly heads downstairs.
Passing by the living room and kitchen she doesn't see the guys, so they must be in bed. Walking to the basement door she sees that the door off the mudroom to the garage is open.
Reaching the door to the basement she again quietly heads down the stairs.
Shaylynn reaches the bottom of the steps and rounds the corner walking toward her vault.
With what little light is coming in from a nearby window, she can see there's two figures.
"HANDS UP, NOW!" she yells at them, "TURN AROUND!"
The two figures turn around, Shaylynn turns on her flashlight. Standing in front of her is Cruz and Capp.
"Damn it, guys! Are you trying to get shot?!" she asks them angrily.
She walks past them and enters a code to shut off the alarm.
"What are you doing down here?" she asks them.
"Capp wanted to see your guns, but didn't want to disturb you so he got the bright idea he could get into your vault" Cruz tells her.
"Where were you?" Shaylynn asks Cruz.
"I went out to the garage to see Kelly's bike" he tells her.
"So that's why the door to the garage is open" she says back to him.
"Yes. When I heard the alarm I hurried back inside to see if I could help Capp turn it off" Cruz tells her.
Shaylynn shakes her head, "Be ready for Hank to show up" she tells them.
"Why would Hank be showing up?" Capp asks her.
"When the alarms are set off, Hank and Kelly both receive texts. And unlike the vault alarm, the house alarm is silent and can only be heard in the master bedroom."
Shaylynn looks at Cruz, "By you going out to the garage set off the house alarm and then Capp setting off the vault's. I'm sure Hank and Kelly think someone has broken in. If you two are here, where's Tony?"
"He went upstairs to bed. That's probably where he still is. The man is a sound sleeper, both Cruz and I have to wake him at the Firehouse. If we don't gang up, he'll sleep right through the alarm just like he did with the vaults" Capp tells her.
"I better get my phone and call Kelly. I'm sure he's called multiple times and I have texts galore" she tells them.
"SHAYLYNN!"
They hear Hank yelling for her. She heads up the stairs with Cruz and Capp behind her.
"How did Hank get in?" Capp asks Shaylynn.
"Really?! He's my Dad. He has the security code and a key. Just like Benny has the security code and a key" Shaylynn tells him.
"SHAYLYNN!" Hank yells again.
She finally reaches the top of the stairs, "I'm right here."
Hank looks over and sees her coming up from the basement with Capp and Cruz behind her. He gives her a confused look.
"They didn't like the idea of me being here by myself, so they're staying the night. Tony is upstairs in one of the guest rooms" she tells Hank.
"What's the deal with the alarms then?" he asks her.
"Cruz went out to the garage to look at Kelly's bike not knowing the house alarm would be set off. Capp, he wanted to see my gun collection, but didn't want to disturb me. So he thought he would be able to get in the vault on his own" she explains to Hank.
Hank looks at Capp and Cruz with a very disapproving look. They smile back at him.
Hanks phone rings, "Voight. Yeah, I'm here. She's fine, it's a false alarm."
He holds the phone out to Shaylynn, "It's Kelly. He's worried sick."
Shaylynn takes the phone from Hank and walks to the kitchen to talk.
"What were you two think thinking?! Especially you Capp? She had a state of the art security system installed on that vault for a reason. There is no way in hell you would have gotten in there. Cruz, you know they have a security system for their house, why would you go out to the garage knowing she had it set?" Hank asks.
"Systems usually cover the windows and outside doors. I didn't think the door leading into the garage would be one of them" Cruz says to Hank.
"Even though Shaylynn is no longer with the Organization, they still installed the system. To them the door from the house to the garage is an outside door" he tells Cruz.
Shaylynn walks back over to where the guys are. She hands Hank his phone.
"Because of this Kelly switched his flight and will be arriving at 5 in the morning" she tells the guys.
"I'll pick him up at the airport so you can sleep" Hank tells her.
"Thanks! Here's his flight information" she tells Hank and hands him a piece of paper.
"Since everything's okay here, I'm going to head back home" he gives Capp and Cruz another look.
"Thanks for coming, Dad" Shaylynn tells Hank and gives him a hug.
Hank walks out the door, Shaylynn closing it behind him and resetting the security system.
She turns around and looks at Capp and Cruz, "I think it's time for everyone to get to bed."
Both of them agree. The guys head upstairs while Shaylynn turns off the lights. She heads up the stairs, enters her room, shuts the door, puts her sidearm back into it's compartment, climbs into her bed, snuggles up once again with Severide's pillow so she can smell his cologne and falls asleep.
