"Eleanor - my dear - come here, I know - I know." Ducky stated, as I burst into Autopsy. Jimmy bowed quietly out of the room.
"I'm sorry, Ducky, I'm not one to cry, but to be betrayed by my own mother. Why?" I sobbed, pulling myself into his hug.
"I would expect even the most hardened people to be affected this way at news such as yours." Ducky replied.
"I just don't understand..." I trailed off.
"None of us do." He replied. I nodded, and let go of his embrace. Ducky glided over to a box of tissues and back. "Here, I think you need a couple of these." He stated, chuckling and handing over the box.
"Thanks." I laughed with him. "I knew I shouldn't have bothered with eye liner today." I laughed again.
"May I ask why you needed a hug off me, when there were four people upstairs who also would've been adequate huggers?" Ducky asked, with an air of curiousity.
"I'm not sure, Ducky, I don't think Gibbs would have wanted me to pounce on him in a heap of tears." I replied, earning a barking laugh off Ducky.
"No, my dear, you're most likely right." He replied. "Ah, speak of the Devil..." Gibbs enter autopsy, seemingly tentatively. He held his coffee and slowly snuck into the room, checking for any signs of a crying me."You finished with the tears?" He asked me. I smiled and nodded, and finished wiping my eyes and make up. Gibbs sighed a small sigh of relief.
"I'm fine. Now what are we going to do about my mother?" I asked, a rush of anger flowing through me at the thought of her wanting me dead. There was an almost unnoticed glance between Gibbs and Ducky before Gibbs spoke.
"Squadroom." Gibbs stated, ordering me up there. I nodded, and turned to Ducky.
"Thank you." I whispered and left autopsy and headed to the elevator. Gibbs however took an extra minute to leave autopsy."What was that all about?" I asked in the elevator.
"Nothing." Was Gibbs' only reply. I decided not to push it when he was in one of his frequent silent moods. The broody, silent Gibbs state as I and Abby had dubbed it.
"Stop that." I ordered him.
"Stop what?" He asked.
"Stop thinking, I can hear your brain working and it's annoying." I replied. All I heard from him was a quiet chuckle. My shoulder was beginning to hurt again as the elevator reached the squadroom. We entered the squadroom and I sat at my desk, ready to work. I was fired up, and ready to find my mother. I wanted answers and for this nightmare to be over. I hastily took a couple of painkillers and swallowed them without water.
"DiNozzo, track down Blue's mother - then you and Ziva pack your bags, you're taking a trip to London."
"Yes boss! I love London!" Tony replied."Uh, boss, what should I do?" McGee asked.
"Take the rest of the day off, take Ellie with you, until DiNozzo and David are in London then I need you both in MTAC." Gibbs ordered.
"Sure, you hungry Blue?" McGee asked me. I was, but I felt like going for food was the least of my worries. But the look on Gibbs' face told me to just go with it.
"Yeah sure, want some pizza?" I asked McGee.
"Sounds good, let's go." He replied. Gibbs stopped us at the elevator.
"Be careful. We don't know who could be after any one of us now." He stated before letting the elevator doors close."What do you think he meant by that?" I asked McGee.
"I think he means that they -whoever they are - know we are on to them. And we're all at danger now." Tim replied.Tim and I headed to the mall. McGee suggested shopping after some pizza as a way to take my mind off things. I though of shopping as a way of spending what little money I had left. Ziva had text me in the car, letting me know that she and Tony were on the plane ready to fly.
"What do you think about Tony and Ziva, Tim?" I asked him as he drove.
"What do you mean? They just work together." McGee replied, frowning.
"Oh Tim, you sweet summer child. There's something there - how can't you see it?" I asked.
"They have a lot of banter, yeah I guess and there is just meaningless flirting there too and then there was that undercover mission where - Oh my God! They like each other!!" Tim called out, finally seeing his own reasoning.
"I feel like I witnessed a lightbulb moment." I replied with a smirk.
"Do you think Gibbs knows?" McGee asked.
"Of course he does. Gibbs knows everything." I replied. "But don't forget about 'Rule 12'." i said in my most Gibbs-ish voice. "'Never date a co-worker'." McGee laughed along with me as we arrived at the mall.
"Don't forget, keep a lookout." McGee stated whilst holstering his gun and badge.
After the pizza from the food mall, McGee and I took to mindlessly wandering around the mall, occasionally going into a shop and messing around with the merchandise. The day had flown by, having fun with McGee - I actually had fun for a change. But as we were stood in line for coffee, my phone rang.
"Gibbs, what's up?" I asked immediately.
"I need you back at NCIS, DiNozzo and Ziva got your mother and they have to wait for the flight back. Everything needs to be ready." He stated.
"Sure, we are on our way." I replied, before indicating to Tim that we needed to set off. "That was quick, they must have only just landed." I stated.
The trip back to NCIS was short and fast, McGee took on his Gibbs-driving skills and I prepared what I could on my phone. We were in the squadroom in little to no time and were greeted by Gibbs, Abby, Ducky and the Director.
"Let's get to work." Gibbs stated.
