"Fight him off, sweetheart. I'm here for you. You're stronger than him."
"It hurts! I can't do it!"
"Yes, you can! You have to! I love you so much, Jack. Fight him off."
"I can't."
. . .
"Hello, Mark. It's nice to finally meet you."
Mark bolted up in bed with a sharp gasp. The nightmares were getting more vivid as the weeks went on. Thankfully, Jack was safe and sound asleep next to him. Well, he had been. Now, his eyes were blinking open. He glanced up at Mark with narrow, sleepy eyes. Mark loved Jack's eyes; they were a bright, sky blue filled with passion for every event the day brought.
"What's the matter?" Jack yawned, hugging Mark's arm.
"Nothing. Just . . . just a nightmare," Mark admitted.
"It's about Anti, isn't it?" Jack sighed. Mark nodded reluctantly. His boyfriend was the sweetest, kindest, funniest man to ever bless mankind. However, the beast living within him was the opposite. Anti, as Jack liked to call him, was an alien, a thing living inside Jack. It used to be rare that Anti tried to take over Jack. Now, the monster within Jack was battling daily to escape the confines of it's host. Jack would whip and thrash, screaming in agony. All Mark could do was beg Jack to hold on.
Mark's nightmares were the fears he experienced culminated into a single entity. Mark's biggest fear was to lose Jack to Anti. Mark couldn't lose his source of happiness, his reason to live, to some devil burrowed inside of his boyfriend.
Mark wouldn't. He wouldn't allow Jack to succumb to Anti's constant attempts at escaping. Mark would fight alongside Jack forever and always.
The question was if Jack would fight.
There were moments that Anti tried to escape where Jack's eyes would roll into the back of his head, his body shuddering. Mark feared one day, the pain and agony would be too much. One day, Anti would be released from his prison.
Jack tugged on Mark's arm, silently asking for him to lay back down. Mark complied, wrapping his arms around Jack's waist. Jack kissed Mark's jaw line, his legs tangled with Mark's. "You know I'm not gonna let Anti win, right?" Jack whispered.
Mark didn't answer. He didn't have to. Jack shook his head, sticking his head in the crook of Mark's neck. Mark tightened his grip around Jack's waist.
"I do know one thing. I know you're gonna try," Mark murmured, kissing Jack's green hair.
"Damn right I am," Jack said. Mark gave a half smile, and the couple fell back into a restless slumber.
A sharp knocking at the door awoke Mark a few hours later. It was still pitch black outside. Who would be knocking at this ungodly hour? Mark checked the clock. 3:11 am. Another series of loud knocks urged Mark to get moving.
Mark, as to not alert his boyfriend, carefully unwound himself from the intertwined mess they had become in their sleep. He yawned, putting on his slippers and shuffling out the bedroom door. The door to the apartment was just down the hall.
Mark cautiously meandered to the door. More sharp knocks were emitting from it. Mark peeked through the peep hole, and he was surprised. No one was there.
