A/N: I hope @septlplier-love enjoys this! It's a long one, which is why it took me so long to get it out. PREFACE WARNING THING: I think Wade is an amazing person! I love his videos and his morals. He's so kind and wonderful. Please understand that reading this. An author has to change personalities of people to fit the plot they are providing. Just because an author makes a character do or say something awful doesn't mean the author condones to whatever the character says or does. Please keep this in mind.
I clasped Sean's small hand in mine, rubbing the back of his hand with a calloused thumb. My hands were always extremely calloused, considering I was the head of the royal guard. I protected the castle and it's residents, while still being a part of the McLoughlin army, meaning my hands, along with the rest of my body, were always being put to the test. But Sean didn't mind. He said it was one of his favorite things about me, actually.
Sean's hands, on the contrary, were smooth. Pale, smooth hands that were mine and only mine to hold, to kiss, to cherish, to rub against my cheek.
Sean fell back into the flower bed, his brown hair being threaded with daisies and daffodils. He plucked a tulip with his forefinger and thumb, bringing it to his chest.
I laid back next to him, cringing on the inside as my wide frame smushed the flowers. Sean didn't seem to care, though. He was enjoying himself, and that's all that mattered.
"Mark?" Sean spoke.
"Yes, love?"
"I know we've been courting for a while, and I know no one has found out yet, but . . . do you think we'll get in trouble if caught?" Sean wondered, twirling the tulip with his fingers. I clenched my teeth, having thought about this specific predicament for a grand period of time.
It was better to tell the truth and bear the pain then to lie and bear the shame, as my mother always told me.
"Yes, darling. I do believe we would be in trouble," I sighed. I pushed myself up on my elbow, staring down into his lovely blue eyes. "Yet, we've kept this a secret for so long. What's to say we can't keep this a secret until you become king? You could release all of those like us from hiding, proclaim that love of the same sex is just as natural and beautiful as the more 'normal' love. You have that power, Sean. All you have to do is harness it."
Sean nodded, his thin-lipped smile becoming a bit more genuine with my words. I pecked his lips with mine, earning an even bigger grin from my prince. Our conversation was interrupted by a commotion from outside the royal garden.
The Ziadon army.
Our kingdom, the McLoughlin kingdom, had a fierce feud with the Ziadon kingdom. The king of the Ziadon kingdom, Baron, was one of Sean's only enemies. Baron had become king a few months ago, and now that he was in power, I wouldn't be surprised if the men's feud became more then a series of arguments from across the table.
"Sean, get inside the castle. Now," I commanded, drawing my sword from it's sheath. I readied my battle stance, protecting Sean's body with my own.
Sean, as stubborn as ever, shook his head. "I won't. If you're fighting, I'm fighting."
"It is my duty to protect the royal family, and you are a part of that family. Get in the castle. Please, it won't do me any good if you're dead," I pleaded, hoping my voice would convey enough persuasion, since my eyes were focused on the shouting coming closer.
