With hindsight, I suppose I should've known today would only bring stress due to the month of October and the unlucky number thirteen.

The morning starts off early. When I say early, I mean four in the morning early with the doorbell ringing loudly every five seconds. I counted. Jay stands with his hair grubby and blood staining some of his ripped clothes. My first thought wasn't to ask if he was okay, it was to ask if he wanted a leftover red velvet cupcake. His look indicated that he was not only in pain but also pissed off. "I got mugged."

Normally, that wouldn't stir me. Jay's slowly but surely earning a lot of money and wears it on his person in the form of jewelry and clothes, but I instantly worried when he pushed past me. "Happy Monday," he sarcastically quips before dropping to my couch. After hearing a light snore, I decided I wouldn't wake him up and he would, unlike Harry, ask for help if he needed it. Before I get back to my room, he mumbles, "You know, I've missed you, Isla."

That triggers something that I wasn't necessarily ready for. And maybe it was a bad idea to turn back and look at him, seeing the physical pain in his eyes and how his jaw moved with a piece of gum in his mouth from a bowl on the coffee table. It was possibly an even worse idea to have sex with him especially since I was the one who told him that we couldn't do that anymore due to not only his love for me but also how the past should be in the past. Surprisingly, the worst thing is what happens towards ten in the morning.

I don't believe it's the voices that wakes me up, maybe the smell of breakfast that roused my growling stomach but that only meant people were in my home. And they didn't know Jay had beat them here. I'm not ashamed of Jay, nor am I ashamed of our extensive history, but I didn't want to get caught in this situation. The last voice I ever wanted to hear was Harry's. And I heard it. "She shouldn't be sleeping."

Then Mrs. Davis, "She works hard, she deserves to sleep in."

Then, of course, Regan. "I'll go check in on her."

And a mystery voice of a female rang through. "Thanks for this, it tastes fantastic. It'd be cool to meet whoever made it." Whoever's guest she is, they allowed her to eat a leftover red velvet. For some reason, my hospitality ran short and I wanted to be angry. A knock on the door didn't stir Jay, but it certainly got me. Nakedly, I ran to the door, opened it, and shut it back behind Regan.

"You're kidding, right?" Monday also lets Regan be thoroughly entertained by the unfortunate turn of events. "Mrs. Davis was on her way here, she has a key. So, I came in with her and let Harry and some chick in, too." I sigh while dressing. "You know, I find it kind of funny that not only four days after you have some magical date with Harry, you're sleeping with Jay and he brings some white bitch from the Congo."

     "The Congo?"

"Yeah, her mom does a bunch of volunteer work. She's like some female Bear Grylls. Poor thing always had to move around."

     I inquired, "Dad?"

"A dickhead. Maybe you guys have more in common than you thought. Maybe that's why Harry's got half his arm up her ass. It's pretty disgusting. I'd rather see him all heart eyes over you instead of friendzoning some site model. I learned a lot about her from the literal five minutes we've been here. She talks a lot, like you, but she's so annoyingly interesting it's like you have to listen." She begrudgingly takes a seat on the bed after pushing Jay's feet away.

He rolls over and falls off the bed. Groggily, Jay opens his eyes and scratches his head. "What time is it?"

"Time for both of your dignities to die a withering, slow, pai—"
