Rachel was standing there, unable to move. Her body felt numb, and she was unable to speak.
"What the hell just happened," she mumbled softly. Her thoughts were interrupted by a cry from Charlotte. She slowly and carelessly walked up the stairs still unable to breathe right. She set her phone down on Charlotte's changing table and picked up her baby. Charlotte immediately began to calm down. The poor baby had no idea what just happened. Hell, Rachel didn't even know. Rachel just watched Charlotte praying that Finn was okay.
Rachel was letting out a soft cry when she heard her phone buzz. She rushed over to the changing table and looked at who was calling. It was...Kurt? "What?" she said confused.
"Hello? Kurt?" she said.
"Hello, is this Rachel?" a man said. It definitely wasn't Kurt.
"Yes, this is she," Rachel figured out that the man was an officer.
"We found this phone inside the car, and you were the last caller. Kurt has gotten into a car accident," he began. "He was with another man-"
"Finn," she interrupted. "His name is Finn Hudson and the driver was Kurt Hummel."
"What is your relation with the men?" the officer said.
"Finn is my fiance and Kurt is his step brother,"she said crying.
"Okay well the ambulance just took them to Lima County Hospital," he said.
"Thank you," she said while ending the call.
She quickly called Quinn, so someone can babysit Charlotte while she's gone.
"Hello?" Quinn said.
"Oh my goodness Quinn, I need you it's urgent," she said still crying.
"Rachel, Rachel, calm down and tell me what's wrong."
"Finn," she stuttered, "Finn got into a car accident with Kurt." Now she was full out sobbing. "I need you to come and watch Charlotte so I can go and make sure he's okay, and I don't want to worry about Char."
"Oh my, of course Rachel! I'll be over shortly."
After about 20 minutes Quinn finally came and Rachel rushed to the hospital. She ran in the facility and went up to a desk where a nurse was typing on a computer.
"Hi, excuse me," Rachel began wiping away tears, "is Finn Hudson here?"
"Um, let me check. Yes he is," she said.
"Oh my goodness thank you! Can you tell me what room he is in?"
"I'm sorry, but what's your relation?" she said.
"I'm his fiance," She said.
"I'm sorry, but since you are not direct family or his wife, you cannot see him until he's in better condition. I'm sorry ma'ma."
"What? No! I'm his fiance, and we have a baby together. A BABY!" she started to cry again.
"Rachel?" said a faint voice.
Rachel looked up to see Finn's mom. Mrs. Hudson-Hummel invited Rachel into Finn's room, and the nurse pretended like she didn't see them.
"What happened?" Rachel said holding Finn's hand.
He was knocked out. He looked...dead. Lifeless. It was like this car accident tore the life out of him. She noticed his arm was in a cast along with his leg. His head was beat-up and he had stitches on his forehead.
"They were driving to your apartment and a car t-boned them," Mrs. Hudson said. "I'll leave you alone for a bit. Burt is in the other room with Kurt."
She left and left Finn and Rachel alone. Rachel didn't say anything at first and just stared at him, and stroked his hair.
He began to wake up, sleepily.
"Rachel?" he said groggily.
"Oh Finn! You're awake!" she said.
"Yeah, uh what happened?"
"You were in a car accident. Oh thank the lord you're okay."
Finn was still confused, but didn't bother with anymore questions. His mom came in and they talked for a bit.
After 4 days of explaining to Finn what happened he finally remembered. Kurt was let out 2 days later, but Finn had to stay because the car hit his side so he was injured worse.
Days have come and gone and Finn was making (slow) progress. After a week of recovery they brought Charlotte in to see her father. Finn was so happy to see her. He cuddled her and she giggled.
"Tomorrow is graduation," Rachel brought up. "Do you think you can go?"
"I mean, yeah. I should be fine. I can walk and I can think right, so I should be fine," Finn said.
They were discharged later that afternoon, and once they got home Finn went straight to the couch.
"Are you ready for tomorrow?" Rachel expressed.
"Um, yeah," he said a little nervously. "I mean, it's a little terrifying to graduate from high school the day after I get released from the hospital."
"I know, but let's not think about it right now, okay?" Rachel said while running her fingers through his hair. They put Charlotte down together and went to bed. This last week was hectic. Graduation was supposed to be 3 weeks ago, but there was a huge storm and the school had severe water damage. So, the students didn't have to go for a couple weeks, and now graduation was tomorrow.
They lie there staring at the ceiling counting all their blessings, and then slowly fell asleep.
