Oliver slid the knife under the dead animals skin, the rabbit was splayed across the wooden crate. Laurel struck yet another match that refused to light, she sighed in disgust. 'Laurel do you want to swap jobs?' Oliver laughed.
'Oh god no,' she said. Her damp hair had been pulled into a tight braid, she drew the match quickly across the rough edge and a small flame leapt to the edge of the match and began its way down the stick. She smiled and held it to the small heap of dry twigs, the flame jumped from the match onto the pile and began burning steadily. Laurel struggled to keep the fire going as Oliver skinned the rabbit, as soon as he had finished they put the carcass on a wooden stake and held it over the flame.
The meat began to go brown as the flames licked the dead animal, finally Oliver pulled the rabbit off the stake and dropped it on the crate. He grabbed the knife and cut through the rabbit. He handed Laurel piece, she gripped it between her fingers and took a bite. Flavour filled her mouth and she sighed, the last proper meal she had consumed was right before the gambit went down. She ate her fill before sitting back and sighing.
Oliver finished his piece soon after and turned to Laurel, he placed a warm hand on her cheek and drew her in for a kiss. Her lips were soft against his, a thought crossed his mind and he hated himself for it. He was glad that Laurel had come with him, he was glad that she was there with him instead of safe at home. Considering the circumstances he allowed himself that one portion of selfish thinking. The kiss was long-lasting and sweet, he placed one hand on her waist and the other remained on her cheek.
Laurel closed her eyes and imagined that they were somewhere else, her apartment. Ollie had thrown her gently on the bed and had laid down next to her. He pulled her close and locked his lips with hers, she matted her fingers in his hair. The kiss was gently, loving. He placed a hand on her waist and pulled her closer, he pulled away from the kiss. 'I love you. More than anything.' He whispered in her ear before pressing his lips against hers again.
She opened her eyes and the apartment melted around her revealing the cave. Its dusty floor, the gritty stone walls, the gaping hole they called a 'door', and Oliver. His warm eyes, his gentle touch. The wide smile that spread across his face when he saw her, his thick muscled arms that held her when she cried. She felt an overpowering wave of emotion for him, she loved him. The fact that he loved her meant everything to her in that moment, the love he felt for her was the only force on earth that could rival what she felt for him.
'I love you,' she said before throwing herself at him. Her body arched over his as she kissed him, he grabbed her waist hungrily and yanked her towards him roughly. She circled his waist with her legs and gripped his hair in her fingers. They broke their kiss as Oliver pulled his shirt over his head, Laurel placed a hand on his abdomen. His muscles were prominent, she traced them with her finger as they kissed. This kiss was hungry but it was a different kind of hungry. They were hungry for each other's proximity rather then their body, they wanted to be close. Close enough that they would breath the same air, close enough that their noses almost touched.
Laurel drew in deep breaths between kisses, Oliver whispered 'I love you,' against her neck. His lips tickled her neck as he kissed it, Laurel stretched out her neck and gasped. Her fingers scrambled to find purchase on his shoulder blades. Oliver swept his legs from underneath her and stood up taking her with him. Oliver carried her to the mattress, kissing her all the while. He leant down and placed her on the bed, they continued to kiss stopping only to breath.
Laurel fumbled with the buttons on her shirt and eventually pulled it away from her body. Oliver reached to take her bra off and she let him, his hands were warm on her flesh. She sighed as he traced her collarbone with his tender lips, 'I love you.' She whispered as kissed her stomach. He pushed her flat on her back, he placed a hand either side of her skull and leant down to kiss her. Their lips touched gently, his lips remained on hers for some time. It was a lingering kiss, almost like a kiss goodbye.
Oliver pulled away and rolled over, he lay by Laurel's side breathing heavily. She sat up and pulled her bra and shirt back on, Oliver got up and retrieved his shirt from the floor where it had been discarded. He yanked it over his head and came back to sit by Laurel, he pulled her in for a tight hug and kissed the top of her head. She let her arms hang by her side limply and closed her eyes shut. Once again she was in her apartment, Oliver was there too. He embraced her, it was morning. She yawned against his chest, he released her and smiled.
'Love you,' He teased.
'Love you,' She grunted back though she still managed to fill it with meaning. She really did love him.
