I snap out of it and walk down the stairs and out to the porch. Elijah and Klaus watch me carefully as I enter. “You don’t need to tell me anything.” I add and throw the book at Klaus. He catches it and reads the title.

“Well, aren’t you sneaky?” He smirks.

“You weren’t gonna tell me anything, so I found out for myself.”

“I was, I was just waiting for the right time…”

“Really? And when would that be? When I was already marked?” I storm back into the house and grab my keys. I walk out the front door and get into my car. Before I know it, Elijah is at the window. I reluctantly roll it down. “What?”

            “Where are you going?”

“Since Damon left Elena, I wanted to see how Stefan was doing.”

“You sure you’re not doing this out of anger?”

“Maybe… But I’ll be back later and while I’m gone, try to talk some sense into him.”

“Oh, I know you’ll be back… The further away you are, the more pain you’ll feel.”

He disappears as I pull out of the driveway. I wonder what that means…

I shrug it off and continue across town to Stefan’s. I’m almost halfway there when something hits me. All of a sudden there’s a slight pain in my head. Kind of like a headache… Is this what Elijah was talking about?

The closer I get to Stefan’s, the more intense it gets. I struggle, but I make it to the house. Man, if it’s this intense with only a few miles separating us, imagine hundreds of miles…

I shudder at the thought as I walk into the Salvatore Estate. Elena and Stefan are in the parlor by the fireplace, they’re both smiling.

Stefan turns and looks at me. “I was wondering when you’d show.”

“Oh my gosh, Grace, I’m so sorry.” Elena says and walks over to me.

            “Sorry for what?”

“Damon. I don’t know what got into me.”

“Doesn’t matter, I just came to see if you two had made up and it looks like you have, so I’ll be going.” I add but Stefan stops me.

            “What’s wrong?”

I try to say something but my thoughts are scrambled. “I need to get back to him…” I mutter and head toward my car.

“What happened?” Stefan asks, following me outside.

“We matured the bond to the next stage, it’s just really overwhelming… I’ll call you later.” He nods as I head back to the house.

Before I can get back on the road, Elijah pops into my mind.

It seems as if, not only does distance hurt the one that is leaving, but it also hurts the one being left behind.

            Klaus?

Yes, everything you’ve felt since you left, he has also felt. Now, please return home.

            I’m on my way.

And with that, he was gone. I increased my speed and before long, I was back home. I could finally think straight and the pain had disappeared.

As I walked in, Rebekah greeted me.

“Finally, do you realize how much pain you’ve put my brother through?” She asks.

“Why, yes, I believe I do.” I walk past her and find Klaus in the parlor with Elijah. I look to him, “We need to talk. Now.”
