Chapter 48 "Heart Attack"

                                    

                                          
Truck and Squad start pulling Severide and Shaylynn up and finally get them up far enough to get them on the bridge. 
"Get ready to stand up" Severide tells her.
They're lowered down, Shaylynn can feel solid ground under her feet once again. 
"Shaylynn are you okay?" Dawson asks her.
"Yes, I'm fine."
"Okay, I was afraid something happened to your eye's the way you had your face buried in Severide's neck" Dawson says to her.
"I HATE heights! If I would've taken one look, I would've been sick" Shaylynn tells Dawson.
All the guys look at each other.
"Yeah! Yeah! I see the looks! It's a story left for another time" Shaylynn tells them. 
"How's Sophie?" Shaylynn asks Dawson.
"She's okay under the circumstances. Pretty shaken up. She's in the ambulance with Brett."
"Shaylynn, what exactly happened here?" Boden asks her.
"It was an attempted kidnapping. They were after Sophie" she tells Boden. 
"Why were they after Sophie?" Boden asks.
"Sophie's the Governor's granddaughter. She's been staying with him for the week. He's been having problems with threats so he called me and asked if I would escort her to her parents, he was afraid to go along with her. He also told me he has suspicions that his office and home phones are bugged, so he called me from his cell phone. When he talked to Sophie's parents he used his home phone, that must have been when whoever got their info. The only ones who knew about Sophie traveling this way was the Governor, his wife, Sophie's parents, the Governor's driver, and myself." 
"Do you think it was the Governor's driver who leaked the info?" Boden asks her.
"No. If it would've been him, he would have just stopped the limo and let them take her. They must have gotten in front of him to slow him down. He sped up and rammed them, that's what got my attention. They must have slowed down to let him pass and shot him at that time, because they ended up behind pushing us. What they didn't count on was me. After I shot the passenger, the driver sped up and rammed us. Then I shot the driver, after that is a blur. I have no clue how the limo ended up where it was and they ended up going over."
The boat captain radios to Boden, "The dive team has recovered the driver to the limo. Is that all they need to recover?"
"Yes! The other two made it out" Boden radios back.
"You better be ready to repeat all that, because here comes Hank" Boden tells Shaylynn.
Hank and the rest of the Intelligence unit pull up. He quickly walks up to Shaylynn and gives her a big hug.
"Uh, Dad I would like to breathe please."
Hank let's go of her, "You're literally going to give me a heart attack! It's a good thing you're married to a Firefighter to get you out of sticky situations like this one. That's the only thing that keeps me going and sane knowing that man would die for you and keep you safe!"
Shaylynn can't believe Hank is treating her like a teenage girl that he just caught sneaking in after curfew.
"What Kelly did, he would've done for anyone, not just me! As a matter of fact, he didn't know I was in the limo until he got in there. I'm not a little girl who needs protected! It would be best not to continue this conversation! Sophie needs to go to the hospital to get checked out and I need to call the Governor" Shaylynn says to Hank.
She turns around, looks at Boden and Severide then heads to the ambulance. 
Hank looks at Boden and Severide, "When she's in a better mood, let me know so I can talk to her about what happened here" he says. 
He then turns around and heads toward the rest of the Intelligence team. They get in their cars and head down to the side of the river where the two bodies are.
The Fire Crew hurries and puts everything back that way they can get off the bridge and it can be reopened, while Brett and Dawson take Sophie and Shaylynn to the hospital.
They arrive, Dr. Manning looks over Sophie while Dr. Rhodes insists that Shaylynn should be looked over also. After a lot of protest, Shaylynn agrees. Maggie tells Shaylynn she'll call the Governor for her.

                          
Meanwhile back at the Firehouse, Casey and Severide are talking when Severide's phone goes off, he looks at it, it's a text from Shaylynn. He opens the text, a video is attached. Severide looks at Casey with a confused look.
"Is everything okay?" Casey asks him.
"I'm not sure. I don't understand why Shaylynn would send a video" Severide tells Casey.
Severide is just about to click on the video, "Maybe I shouldn't be here while you watch it. It might be a private video" Casey says to Severide with a grin on his face.
Severide laughs, "Shaylynn went to the hospital with Sophie remember. She wouldn't do something like that there." 
He clicks on the video. First thing he sees is Dr. Rhodes and can hear Shaylynn in the background........
