{these are the colors that Dustie and Riley dye their hair in this chapter. To give you a visual}
Dustie
Today was finally the day, Riley and I were going to get our hair dyed and I was beyond excited. Riley didn't seem to share in my excitement. I honestly didn't think that she would. She was never one to be too happy about change.
"Are you sure about this?" She asked as I drove us to the salon.
"Yes, absolutely!" I said.
"Did you ever decide what color you were gonna do?" She asked.
"Yeah, I'm gonna do purple. You?"
"It's a surprise." She said.
"Really? Are you getting it dyed?"
"Well duh," She said.
"Okay, just checking."
We pulled into the parking lot of the salon and got out. We both walked in and the stylist met us. She took us back and we got in our chairs. Another stylist came out and started on Riley, and then mine came out.
"Okay, so what are we doing today?" She asked me.
"I want dark purple and a trim."
"Alright sounds good. I think that color will look good on you."
"Thanks, I hope so." I said.
She mixed up the hair dye and then started putting it on my hair and wrapping it in the foil. I kept trying to sneak a look at Riley, but it was hard to tell what color she was doing. There was a lot of hair dye over there. I saw red for sure, but I couldn't tell what the second color was. I was also surprised that she was doing one color, let alone two!
When I was finally done, she left me to let the color sit and Riley's stylist did the same thing. We turned our chairs so we could face each other and talk.
"So Ri, what'd you do?" I asked.
"You'll find out soon."
"Why the heck are you being so secretive about this?"
"I just wanna surprise you."
"Okay then."
A few minutes later both our stylist came back and they took us to get the color washed out. After mine was shampooed, she brought me back and trimmed it up some. She dried it and flat ironed it, and I was done.
"What do you think?" She asked.
"I love it. Thank you!" I said.
"You're welcome, come back."
"I will."
I paid her and then went to find Riley. They said she was waiting out front, so I walked out there and I didn't see her. There was a couple of people sitting in the waiting room, but I didn't see her.
Then someone tapped my shoulder. I turned around and couldn't believe what I saw. Riley, or I thought it was her, was standing there. Her hair was black and then it faded into a red ombre. It was so unlike her, but it looked amazing.
"Wow, is that really you?" I asked.
"Yep, it is. Do you like it?"
"I love it! It's amazing."
"Thanks, I love yours too. It looks good on you."
"Thanks, man. I can't wait for that party tomorrow. It's gonna be awesome."
"Yeah it is." She said.
When we left the salon, we decided to go get some Starbucks. We ordered our drinks and then sat at a table in the corner.
"So, you gonna talk to him tomorrow night?" I asked.
She looked at me and rolled her eyes. "I thought we were dropping that?"
"Since when have you known me to drop anything?"
"Okay, that's true. But I don't know, I'll just see what happens."
I shook my head at her, she was never talking to that boy. When we finished our drinks, I dropped her off at her house.
"Sure you don't wanna come in?" She asked.
"Nah, I got to finish getting my costume ready for tomorrow night."
"Okay, see you tomorrow." She waved and then went inside.
Now I just had to figure out a plan to get her and Michael to talk at the party. She may be shy, but that is something that I am not. I pulled my car into Michael's driveway and walked up to the door. I knocked and he opened it.
"Hello?" He asked with a weird expression.
"Hey, I'm Dustie, we met a few days ago?"
"Oh yeah right. What's up?"
"I have to ask you a favor." I said.
"Okay, what is it?"
"I want you to talk Riley. She's your neighbor and my best friend."
"Why would I wanna do that?"
"Because, you just need to."
"Well that's not much of a reason."
I sighed. "Okay fine. You have to talk to Riley because I talked to Calum and we had a deal and she's too scared to do it, so you have to. Got it?"
He slowly nodded his head. "Yeah, I guess so."
"Good. So at the bash tomorrow just walk up to her and talk to her."
"Fine, I'll do it."
"Great, thanks!" I said.
I walked off the porch and got in my car, driving off. When I was about halfway down the road I forgot that now Riley had dyed her hair and he probably wouldn't know what she looked like now. Oh well, hopefully he would figure it out..hopefully.
