Chapter 32

Meghan's POV

I was nervous more than anything. I turned around, and Cedric was not there. Why on earth did Dumbledore need? What did I do? What did he know? I quickened my pace. It was one thing walking through the castle with a hand to hold, but walking in the darkness of it alone made me feel like a monster was going to eat me if I didn't hurry.

I knew exactly where to go, but again, it was getting there I feared. I was such a frightened person. I feared the unknown. I did not like not knowing why I was needed. I mean, this was Dumbledore for crying out loud! I could be on my way home, my wand broken, and forced to live as a Muggle.

And what if something happened? What if Matthew was dead, or they located my father, and chucked him in Azkaban for something? If anything, I had a talent for thinking up worst-case scenarios, and making myself believe every word of it.

I decided to pull a Payton, and decide that I was going to be greatly awarded. That was a good idea, was it not? When it doubt, do as Payton would do.

I came to a stop in front of Professor Dumbledore's office, and realized I didn't know the password.

"Hello, it's me, Meghan!" I said loudly. I probably sounded like a lunatic, but what else was I supposed to do?

I heard someone coming down the stairs quickly, and I relaxed. At least I wouldn't be alone in the dark anymore, and it didn't matter if I had sounded like a lunatic.

"Good evening, Miss Grant," said Professor McGonagall, in a friendly but not very warm voice.

"Good evening, Professor," I replied, smiling. I had to put up a brave and innocent front. It's what Payton would do, at least.

Without saying anything else, Professor McGonagall turned around and began walking up the stairs. I shrugged and followed her, assuming I was supposed to do that.

I took a deep breath and entered the doorway in which she had just entered. I expected to see a solemn looking Professor Dumbledore, pondering how he should break the news to me, whatever it was. Perhaps Professor Sprout would be there, mourning for my loss.

What I found when I entered his office, however, was completely different. It was almost comical how far off I was.

Before me was an entire room full of either excited or nervous looking persons. Professor Dumbledore, Mr. Bagman and Mr. Crouch. Also, in three of four lined up seats were Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, and a young girl with silvery blonde hair whom I did not recognize.
