Nineteen | A Sacrifice For a Sacrifice

I stared at the journal on the floor that Damon had thrown back down last night. After one-hundred and forty-five years, I had finally found out how my parents died and it was a hundred times worse than I ever expected.

Stefan Salvatore, my friend for over one-hundred and forty-five years, someone I was so close to and who helped me through everything, had killed both of my parents.

"Hey." Damon said softly. He pressed a gentle kiss to my forehead, "I'll sort this."

I nodded as he left the room and headed downstairs. After a few minutes, I could hear Elena, Stefan and Elijah talking. I didn't bother to move, I just sat in Damon's bed, staring blankly at the journal.

"Tonight is the full moon." Elijah stated, "We should assume that Klaus is prepared to break the curse."

"Elena said that the Sun and the Moon curse is fake? That it's actually just a curse placed on Klaus." Stefan replied. My breath hitched in my throat as he spoke.

"Klaus is a vampire born of a werewolf bloodline." Elijah told them, "The curse has kept his werewolf aspect from manifesting. But if he breaks it. He'll be a true hybrid."

"Then why are we letting him break the curse?" Damon asked, "We can kill him today. With Bonnie."

"Damon..." Stefan scowled. I clenched my jaw every time he spoke.

"No. Bonnie can't use that much power without dying." Elena stated.

"I'll write her a great eulogy." Damon replied.

"It's not an option, Damon."

"All right, how do we break this curse?" Stefan asked. I took a deep breath and finally threw off the duvet, climbing out of bed.

"Well, the ritual itself is relatively straightforward. The ingredients, so to speak, you already know." Elijah told them as I picked up the journal.

"The moonstone." Stefan said.

"A witch will channel the power of the full moon to release the spell that's bound within the stone. After that, Klaus, being both werewolf and vampire, will sacrifice one of each." Elijah replied.

"And where do I fit into it?" Elena asked.

I once again stared at the journal like it was going to help me, like I would see something different this time, but instead it just fueled my anger.

"The final part of the ritual. Klaus must drink the blood of the doppelgänger... to the point of your death." Elijah told them.

"And that's where you come in." She said.

"This is an elixir that I acquired some five-hundred years ago for Katerina." He told them, "It possesses mystical properties of resuscitation."

"So I'll be dead?" Elena questioned.

"And then you won't." Elijah replied.

"That's your plan? A magical witch potion with no expiration date? You want to come back to life, what about John's ring?" Damon said. I turned the journal to the page that told my parents death.

"Those rings only work on humans. The doppelgänger's a supernatural occurrence. Odds are, the ring won't work." Elijah replied.

I scanned over the page to the part of Johnathan's death. I had to have read it wrong. It had to be wrong.

"I'll take those odds over your elixir. What if it doesn't work, Elena?" Damon asked.

"Then I guess I'll just be dead." She simply said.
