I walk into the dreadful building not quite ready to face the multiple potential dangers that lie ahead of me.
The room reeks of unknown types of musty and disgusting smells as I watch the countless victims struggle to impress or satisfy the evil woman.
She moves slowly, eyeing and observing everyone of her countless victims before she lunges for the poor boy who couldn't properly do his push up. She scowls and begins throwing a tamper much like a child. Another boy to the right of her stops to breath and to her that's unacceptable. She lunges for the boy and begins screaming and blowing her evil torture device–the loud and annoyingly dreadful whistle.
"STUDENTS". She screams gaining the entire rooms attention. "It's time to climb the rope". People around us gasp and go into a frenzy, their minds understanding of the horrible and undo-able act she wishes for.
"BLAKE! BLAKE"! A voice shouts interrupting me from my thoughts.
I blink back into reality.
My best friend Emily stands in front of me with an annoyed look. "You zoned out again". She says and I give her a sly smile.
"Sorry". I run a hand through my hair and look around. You'd think for a school gym it'd be cooler in here but no. Our P.E. teacher, Ms.Slick, refuses to allow us any AC because it 'prevents us from trying our hardest'. Whatever the hell that means.
"It's cool. Anyways, it's almost time for you to climb the rope". She says and I nod. I mean it's a rope.
How hard can it be?
I watch as the first person fails miserably and collapses on the floor while the second person – Emily – climbs it with ease and rings the bell at the top. She lets go and drops to the floor standing on both feet and sends me a smile. "You're up drama queen".
I nod and make my way towards the rope. I grab onto the thing and begin to climb. Hands up, legs up. I repeat the pattern until I reach the top and ring the bell. The P.E. teacher looks stunned and proud as she wipes away a tear at the progress of my athletic abilities. The room erupts in cheers as confetti falls down onto me and Emily runs up to me to congratulate me.
"Blake! Blake"! She screams placing a hand on my shoulder and continuing to viciously shake me. "BLAKE"!
I'm snapped out of my thoughts again and I see Emily's arm on my shoulder as an impatient look settles on her face.
"What"?
"You. Zoned. Out. Again. Climb. The. Damn. Rope". She was having a reasonable reaction considering I zone out every time we're in Physical Education (P.E.). Or as I like to call it 'Physical Exhaustion'.
"Ok ok". I say stepping up to the rope - for real this time - and clutching it between my palms. Its rough and hard. I take a deep breath and use all my non existent upper body strength to climb the rope. The palms of my hands start aching and I struggle to continue. Forcing myself through the pain, I continue climbing.
Finally I've had enough and I let go.
I expected a long lengthy fall based on the red bruises on my palm but it took me less than 10 seconds to reach the floor. Confused I look to Emily for an explanation and she pulls me aside as the P.E. coach shakes her head at me in disappointment.
