Nash's accident
I gave my brother a hug and told him to be safe. "I will Nick, I'll see you afterwards." He was the only one that could call me that. He tugged at my ponytail and turn to go to the chutes.
I kicked his heel and went over to where his buddies and our parents were. I got up onto the fence to watch him. He got into the chute with Black Jack. That bull was meaner than snot.
Nash got up on his rope and called for it. I watched as he rode perfectly until BJ decided to switch directions. Nash fell off and landed on his neck. "Nash!!!!!!!!!" I screamed. I tried to get into the ring to try and save my twin brother.
My dad held me back as the bull continued to buck. "No! Let me go." I told my dad. BJ landed on Nash's chest. I knew he was dead. Finally I broke from dad's grip and climbed the rails. The bull was out of the ring already.
I ran to my brother hoping he was alive. The paramedics came out along with grandpa and Rodney. I rode to the hospital with my brother where he was pronounced dead.
I ran out of the hospital and down the road. I continued to run until I reached the outskirts of the town. I cried and cried wanting my brother and wishing he was alive. It wasn't my fault he was dead. He would have been alive with a broken neck if dad would have let me out in that ring.
I was supposed to have my brother's back until he let me marry the guy I loved. He was a rock to me, he kept my temper in check even if his was worse than mine at times.
He already had a will written out just in case. I got his truck and all of his stuff. He's to be buried in his Stetson and cross necklace I got him last year for our sixteenth birthday. We were supposed to go pro together.
Our parents never understood us at all. Now I'm lost without him in my life. One day I'll go back to his stuff and let it remind me of all the good times we've had.
Present day
I got out of bed and pulled on a pair of jeans. I got a tank top and went into my kitchen. My phone rang, it was the scout. "Hello?"
"Yes is this Nicky Jaxon?"
"This is she."
"You've been put in the rotation for next year's BFTS season I hope your familiar with it."
"Yes of course I grew up watching it."
"Alright see you in January."
"See you in January."He hung up and I fixed myself breakfast. I made PBR bullfighting. The youngest that I know of. I washed my dishes and got into my truck. Invincible by Skillet came on over my
speakers. I turned it up and let the bass boom.My windows down and the music up as I cruised to grandpa's ranch. I pulled up to the gates and punched in the code. Then drove through the gates over the cattle guard.
I parked in front of the barn and got out. I grabbed the tool box and went over to Big Brother. My bubba's truck. I popped the hood and got the engine lifter.
I lifted the engine out and took it apart piece by piece. I cleaned each and put it back together. Then connected the engine to the battery. I grabbed the keys out of my truck and started the old ford pick up.
Music came out of the radio and the engine ran smoothly. Guitars Cadillacs was still playing from when Nash was listening to it when we got to the arena that night.
I got in and put it in drive. I backed it out of the barn and got down the drive part way before it stopped. I got out and checked the engine again. This truck was going to work no matter how long it takes me to fix it.
I put it in neutral and turned it off. Then pushed it back to the barn. I changed the oil and other things. Finally one more try for the day. I started it back up and got to the gates and onto the road.
Three miles later I'm calling Rodney for help. He pulled up a few minutes later. "Why do you still mess with this old truck?" He asked. "Because I want to drive it ya ding dong." I told him. "Could ya give me a jump?"
"How about a battery." He said getting a new one out of his backseat. I got it installed and started it up. It ran smoothly. This old diesel engine truck was my brother's baby. He fixed it up and showed me what to do and how to fix it.
I got in and Rodney followed me to grandpa's. I parked in front of the house and ran to get my truck. I parked it next to grandpa's clunker and took the keys to him.
"Got the truck running! I'm letting you use mine because I'm going to be driving Big Bro." He nodded and I gave him the keys. Of course I left the pendant that said Lil' Sis on it.
I left the office and went back to Big Bro. "I heard some people went out and got Nash and cremated him last week." Rod told me. "That's what the family wanted at first. Our parents never saw that death couldn't keep us apart so they just buried him full body."
"They said his body was still all there even after a full year of being buried." He told me as he handed me a box. I opened it up and there were three hearts. I picked one up and inside of it was the necklace pendant with chain.
"The towns people saw how it broke you when he died. They knew you could have saved him from that tragedy but your parents were to self centered to see that."
Three hearts of him. I will always cherish my brother now. I set the box in the passenger seat as I got in. "I'll make sure to tell them thank you." "It was more like the old football team. They're over at the hangout." He told me.
I smiled and started the truck. They were still looking out for me since the accident. I parked at Sonic and there they were. It was after eight on a Friday. "Hey! Look who it is!" Mackey yelled. The guys cheered as I approached them.
"So which one of you decided to dig up the dead." I teased. They all smirked. I got up on the side of the truck bed and sat there. "It was a team and town effort. The sheriff and chief of police let us do it." Gabe told me.
"How many were there?" One asked. "Three." I told them. They smiled and laughed as the night went on. Finally the chief of police came over and told us to go home.
I smiled and went over to Big Bro. The guys watched as I started it up and backed out. "Hello Nicky I see you've got your brother's truck running." "Yes sir. I got it running today." I told him.
"Have fun with PBR and stay safe." He told me. I nodded and pulled out blowing black smoke. Two miles later I was leaving town to my house. I pulled in and parked in the garage. I got a shower to wash the oil and grease off and went to bed.
