Sean's POV:
My stupid alarm clock went off at 7:00am and it was a Saturday as well. Luckily, when I peered over the side of my bed, Mark was still sound asleep. He was laying on a spare mattress, his arms sprawled everywhere and his hair was a mess. A hot mess mind you. I jumped over him neatly and shut the door on the way out of my room. My sister pushed past me and I ruffled her hair as she dashed ahead.
Taking my seat at the table, my mum placed a plate of toast in front of me and I tucked in hungrily.
"So. How's Mark?" She asked. Suzie glanced at me whilst she stuffed her face. We'd got home at 4 yesterday and we had spent the evening playing Overwatch in the living room. Everyone had noticed Mark's black eye and weary expression but thankfully no one mentioned it.
"He's tired, that's all. I left him to sleep a little longer."
"That's good sweetie." My mum smiled.
"How comes he's allowed to bring friends home and I'm not?" Suzie stropped.
"Mark is only one person, not a whole glittery pink party crowd." I said kindly but Suzie stuck her tongue out at me. I pulled a face back and she laughed.
"Maybe another time ok honey?" My mum kissed Suzanna's forehead and went into the kitchen to do the washing up.
"We'll take Mark home as soon as he's up!" She shouted from the other room and I nearly choked on my toast. I took a large sip of water to push it down.
"He's had a long day and I'm sure his dad's worried."
"Uh of course." I mumbled, hiding my fear for Mark behind a weak smile.
"Thanks for the toast ma." I said cheerfully. "I'll let Mark know that breakfast is ready."
I made my way back upstairs and into my room to find Mark awake and staying at the photos on my walls.
"Does your mum know?" He asked quietly, touching the pictures of me with various boys.
"Know what?" I said, confused.
"That you're gay." He replied in a whisper.
"No. I just tell her there friends and she accepts that."
Mark just nods.
"Breakfast is downstairs, I'll pack up your stuff and we can go when you're finished."
~time skip~
I was sitting next to Mark in the back of my mum's Toyota whilst he bounced his knee nervously. I could tell he was scared, I was scared for him. I rested my hand on his leg and it seemed to comfort him. He smiled at me and leant his head on the window as the first drops of rain ran down the side of the car. My ma turned up the radio and began humming along to an old song I didn't know. I could hear Mark quietly joining in and I turned away to hide my small smile. It was moments like this that made my life so much better, even though we'd only had a few and they were only small.
"We're here guys."
Mark thanked my mum for her hospitality which she accepted kindly and I helped get his bag out of the boot. Mark's house was unkempt and messy, the lawn untrimmed and litter scattered on the drive. I walked with him to the porch and pulled him into a tight hug. As I pulled away, I whispered in his ear.
"Call me, I'll see you on Monday. Stay safe."
He nodded blankly and I turned away and walked back down the path. I could sense him taking a deep breath before he unlocked the door, letting it slam shut behind him. My mum had left the car and wrapped an arm around my shoulder.
