My phone kept buzzing. Chat refused to leave me alone.

[ Are you home safe? ]

[ are you home ]

[ Did you make it in one piece ]

[ Are you ignoring me ]

[ Please reply ]

[ At this point I'm going to assume you're ignoring me ]

[ Ladybug? You wanna talk? ]

[ Night. ]

I perked up at the last one. No emoticons, no hearts, no nicknames... it seemed as though Chat was upset about something, so naturally, I called. "Uh, Ladybug?" He asked, voice thick with sleep.

"Sorry, did I wake you?" I whispered, determined not be heard by my mother, who, after bidding me a good night, had decided to prep some things for the next day, so she could sleep in a couple of minutes.

"No, no... you... didn't... wa-" A yawn, and then silence.

A kerfuffle, and Chat spoke again. "Ladybug! Hi!" He said, alert now.

"Hi, Chat." I breathed.

There was something just so magical about speaking on the phone with him. The fact that I could hear his voice, out of costume and mask, as he lay on his bed, staring at the ceiling.... I loved it. "Hey." He replied, sounding equally entranced.

"Oh! You said you wanted to talk?" I explained.

"Well, I asked if you wanted to talk." He corrected sleepily.

"Sorry.... You seemed like you needed someone to talk to, is all." I clarified.

"You figured that out from... what, one or two messages?" He asked.

"Well, yes."

"Thanks. How long have we known each other? Three days? I'm amazed you already know me so well."

"Well, four now." I said, glancing at my clock. "I have a talent for reading people."

"Are you going to sleep?" Chat inquired.

"Well... I'm not tired, per se." I admitted.

"So what where you gonna do?"

"Probably watch some shows." I shrugged, no matter that he couldn't see me.

"That's nice. I like watching TV. I don't do it often, though." He said.

"Why not?"

"Busy schedule. Like less than five minutes of 'me time' per day." Chat - whoever he was in real life - explained.

"Maybe next time we meet up, we can watch something?" I suggested shyly, afraid that I'd spoken too confidently or... invitingly.

"Really?" He asked, pure elation in his voice.

"Yeah, you dork. Sure." I said, caught up in relief that Chat didn't recognize my accidental coyness. And not the "She's shy" kind of coy, either.

Closer to the "she's pretending to be modest to pick you up" kind of way. Chat laughed on the line as I blushed involuntarily. "That'd be great, thanks, LB." That's right, I was Ladybug.

I'd been thinking of myself as Marinette the entire call. It was weird how I imagined myself as two different entities. Not a split person, but two entirely different people. "Buginette, you there?" Chat prodded softly.

"Oh, yeah- sorry." I laughed nervously.

"Are you tired, Ladybug?"

"Yeah. Are you?" A pause on the other line, stretching to almost a minute.
