"UP HERE!"
Boden and Severide lookup. Shaylynn is standing on the roof holding her coat.
Severide yells up to her, "YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO REPEL DOWN!"
"I CAN'T!" Shaylynn yells back.
"OTIS! GET THE LADDER OVER TO SHAYLYNN!" Boden tells him.
Otis starts maneuvering the ladder over to where Shaylynn is.
Severide starts climbing up the ladder while Otis is moving it so he'll be almost to the top when the ladder gets there.
The ladder finally reaches Shaylynn and Severide is at the top.
"Here! Hurry up and take my coat! The roof is getting ready to go!" Shaylynn tells Severide.
Severide hurries and grabs her coat. He feels something moving inside.
He moves down so Shaylynn can get on the ladder. Just as she gets on, the roof collapses.
Severide starts backing down with Shaylynn following him.
"What's in your coat?" Severide asks her.
"Twins" Shaylynn tells him.
They reach the bottom. Severide opens Shaylynn's coat, sure enough staring back at him are twin boys. He takes them over to the ambulance. The lady and man who were brought out of the house start crying. Relieved to see that their babies are safe.
"Thank you so much for saving our sons!" the man tells Severide.
Severide looks at them, "It wasn't me, it was my wife."
The man and woman stare at him.
Severide points over to Shaylynn who's sitting on Trucks bumper drinking a bottled water.
"We need to get them to the hospital" Brett tells Severide.
Severide nods and gets ready to shut the doors.
"Please thank your wife for us" the man tells Severide with a smile.
Severide smiles back, "I sure will!"
Over by Truck, Boden is talking to Shaylynn.
"Where's your mask, tank, and helmet?" he asks her.
"I would say all of it is in the basement now. My helmet fell off when I was going up the staircase to the roof. The closer I got to the roof, it seemed the ceiling became lower and lower. I wasn't going back for it. My mask and tank I took off when I needed my coat for the babies. I couldn't find anything big to wrap them both in."
Boden looks at her and smiles, "Good job, Shaylynn!"The crew returns to the Firehouse.
"Three babies in one day. Is something trying to tell you something, Shaylynn?" Herrmann asks her.
Shaylynn looks at him, "I sure hope not! I think it's more like putting me in the right place at the right time."
Another call comes in for another house fire. Everyone turns back around and heads back to the trucks.
When they get to the call it's actually not a house fire, but a big pile of wood has been set on fire.
Since Shaylynn doesn't have any of her equipment she stays back. She's looking around (old habits are hard to break) while everyone else is doing what they need to do.
There's a crowd that's formed to watch the Firefighters, but someone in the crowd seems out of place.
Shaylynn keeps her eyes on him while watching the others work. She looks back over to the crowd, the guy's gone.
She gets this unsettling feeling that something's wrong, bends over, reaches into her boot and takes her gun from her ankle holster. She stands up and walks around looking for the guy who's given her this feeling. Shaylynn starts walking over to where the fire crew is.
"ALDERMAN CASEY!" someone shouts.
Casey turns around as Shaylynn looks to see who yelled, it's the guy! She notices he has a gun in his hand and is walking toward Casey.
Shaylynn starts running toward Casey as the guy raises his arm and points the gun at him.
She reaches Casey just in time. As she stops in front of him, the other guy fires a shot and hits her in the shoulder. Shaylynn takes aim and hits the guy in a leg, he falls to the ground.
She hurries over to the guy and tells him to let go of his gun. He does and she kicks it away from him.
Everyone is in shock with what just happened!
Boden radios that they need two ambulances and notifies the police of the gunman who is being detained by Shaylynn.
Severide runs up to Shaylynn to check on her.
She looks at him, "I'm fine! Just don't get to close! Who knows what he might try to do."
The ambulances show up. The paramedics get out and head over.
"Don't touch him! Wait until the police have a chance to search him to make sure he has nothing else!"
They do as Shaylynn says. Two police cars show up along with Hank. They rush over and get the guy to his feet. After frisking him, they found he had a knife. He's put in handcuffs then the paramedics look at his leg. Since the gunman is finally in cuffs, the other set of paramedics get Shaylynn over to their ambulance. They stop the bleeding and look at her shoulder.
The fire crews head over to the ambulance Shaylynn's at. They all look at her in shock.
"Don't worry, I'm going to be okay!" she tells them.
"Shaylynn, I really don't know what to say. Saying thank you seems so little compared to what you did for me." Casey tells her.
"Casey, there is no need for that! Old habits die hard. No matter what, I'll protect everyone in this Firehouse."
The paramedics tell them they have to get Shaylynn to the hospital. Severide starts to get up in the ambulance.
"What do you think you're doing?" Shaylynn asks him.
"I'm going to the hospital with you!" he tells her.
"No you're not! You're staying here with your crew! You can't be leaving everytime something happens to me. I'll be fine! This is nothing. I've been shot in the shoulder before, so I know what's going to happen. Come to the hospital when you can, okay."
"Can I at least give you a kiss?" he asks.
Shaylynn smiles, "Yes! That you can do!"
Severide gives her a kiss and then backs out of the ambulance. He shuts the doors, the ambulance drives off while Severide watches.
Casey pats Severide on the back.
"A piece of me dies everytime I see her go into an ambulance and watch it pull away without me" Severide tells Casey.
"Let's hurry up and get everything taken care of so you can head to the hospital."
Everything is cleaned up, equipment is put back and everyone heads back to the Firehouse, except Squad.
