Friday morning I woke up to the smell of bacon. Did I mention that I love bacon. I stumbled out of bed and shuffled to the kitchen. Dad was cooking breakfast. I dropped into a chair at the table. Dad turned to me with a bright smile.
"Good morning baby girl. Did you sleep well?" He asked
"Morning, I slept great, I was surprised that I was able to sleep in. What happened to our walking, talking alarm clock?" I asked, referring to Ferg and his obnoxiously early mornings.
"I told him that it was my day today. I was hoping we could go out."
"And he agreed? Without inviting himself along?" I was a bit shocked. Ferg had become my shadow since I asked him to help paint my room. It was a nice feeling, having someone who wanted to hang out with you.
"Well, I went over his head and told his mom that I needed a day with you before you go off to school, and as you can see, if you need to get Ferg to do something you either go to his mom or Marsha." He said cheekily. Dishing up 2 plates of Pancakes and bacon, then placing them on the table for us.
"Good to know," I laughed "So where are we going?" I dug into breakfast, loving how I was finally able to eat until I was full. And did I mention that I love the bacon?
"It's a surprise." He said with a smile that lit up his whole face.
We finished up breakfast and dad washed the dishes while I dried and put them away. When we finished I went back to my room to grab a t shirt and Capri's. I headed straight to the bathroom fully prepared to empty the hot water tank. I stood under the spray of hot water just letting the water run down my body as I thought of how much my life had changed in less than a week. How much I wanted to forget my past and just pretend like I have always lived here. I washed my hair and body, and stood under the water again until it ran cold. Grabbing a towel I quickly dried off and dressed, after running a brush through my hair I left the bathroom. I found dad in the living room reading a book. He looked up when I came in.
"Ready to go?" He said smiling.
"All set." I said, picking up my purse.
We drove into town and stopped at the Mall we went shopping at a few days ago.
"Are we going shopping again? Because I can't think of anything I would need, we kind of bought one of everything in my size last time." I said as we walked into the mall entrance.
"Sort of." He said. He walked through the mall as if he knew exactly where he was going. I followed him as he navigated the mall curious to where the hell he was taking me to 'sort of' go shopping. Finally we stopped outside of the large Chapters store. Books. My heart started to beat rapidly.
"Do you want anything from Starbucks? I need a coffee." He said heading to the Starbucks kiosk inside Chapters. My heart dropped in disappointment, dad just needed a coffee. I looked longingly at the teen section of books as I followed him. When we finally made it to the counter I ordered a Green Tea Frappe while dad ordered his coffee.
"This is for you" Dad said handing me a small envelope as we waited for our order.
"What is it?" I ask taking it from him.
"Well, you could open it and find out." He laughed.
I smiled at him and opened the envelope to reveal a Gift card for Chapters. I looked up at dad, my eyes wide and my mouth slightly open. Which only made him laugh again.
"There is $250 on it. The last shopping trip was to get things you needed. This one is to get stuff you want. I know you love books, so I figured instead of buying you books you may not like, I would let you choose the ones you want. I hope that is okay?" He said. I couldn't say anything, I was too shocked. Instead I just reached out and wrapped my arms around his waist and hugged him. It didn't take him even a second to hold me as well. "So, it was a good idea?" He said as he pulled back a bit to look at me.
