Chapter 32 "It's Been Proven"

                                    

                                          
Shaylynn wraps her right arm around Leslie, then sticks her hand out and grabs Savannahs hand. 
Savannah looks up, "MOM!" 
She stands up and gives Shaylynn a hug. 
Shaylynn wraps her left arm around Savannah and starts crying. 
	With Savannah yelling "mom", it startled Leslie and woke her up. She looks up at Shaylynn and sees her Momma is awake and snuggles into her more. 	 
Hank walks over to Savannah, "Maybe we should step out and find Grandma, okay." 
Savannah gives Shaylynn a kiss on the cheek and walks out with Hank. 
Severide gets Leslie to take her out to Cindy. As he passes the nurses desk he tells them that Shaylynns awake. 
One picks up the phone while the other one goes to check on Shaylynn. 	
Hank and Severide walk back into the ICU. The nurse tells them that the doctor will be up shortly. 
They both walk in, Severide straight up to Shaylynn. 
He bends down and kisses her. 
"I thought this time I was going to lose you!" 	
Shaylynn sees tears coming from his eyes. 
Hank can't say anything. He's too overcome with emotions, so he just walks up to Shaylynn and hugs her.
Dr. Rhodes comes in, "How are you feeling, Shaylynn?" 
"I'm okay. My head hurts like someone has been taking an ax to it." 
Dr. Rhodes checks her eyes. Then he checks her head. 	
"OUCH!" Shaylynn gives Dr. Rhodes a dirty look. 
"Was I in a coma?" she asks Dr. Rhodes. 
"Yes" Dr. Rhodes tells her. 
She looks at him with a shocked look.
"Why do you look shocked at the answer?" 
"I thought I was dead." 
Severide and Hank look at each other.
Dr. Rhodes looks at her confused, "Shaylynn, why would you say something like that?" 	 
"Cause Marshall was with me." 
Dr. Rhodes looks at Hank. 
"Marshall is her husband she lost in the Middle East." 
"I know how it sounds. I'm probably crazy, but he was there. Where ever "there" was." 	 
Dr. Rhodes looks at her, "Go ahead Shaylynn. Tell us about it." 
"At first he was nice, but the longer I was "there" he kept getting more and more angry with me. The last thing I can remember before waking up and staring at the hospital ceiling is Marshall yelling at me over and over again." 	 
"What was he yelling at you?" Hank asks her. 
"He was yelling, "Damn it, Shaylynn you need to wake up!" but I didn't understand. Again, he yelled at me "Damn it, Shaylynn you need to wake up! Do you not hear our daughter reading to you! Your daughters Savannah and Leslie need you! You need to get back to them and Kelly! He needs you now more than ever! Shaylynn, WAKE UP NOW!" That's the last thing I remember. Then I was staring at the ceiling listening to Savannah read and could feel Leslie breathing on me." 
Severide has tears streaming down his face. 
Shaylynn motions to him to come over to her bed. He walks over, she pats her bed for him to sit. He sits down. She pulls him to her and hugs him. 	
"Do you remember anything about the fire?" Hank asks her. 	
"Yes. There was two guys in the house. I had one at gunpoint until the other one came up behind me and hit me in the back of the head. I remember hitting the floor hard. I watched the one pick up my gun and head to the stairs. The other one walked around me and also went to the stairs. It looked like he was holding a crowbar. I could hear them talking about how they had to hurry up and get down the stairs or they would have to go out a window. The one with my gun asked the other one if Hadley would pay more if he shot me." 	 
Severide looks at Shaylynn, "If WHO would pay more?" 
"It sounded like Hadley. Or maybe it was Hedley. Once they were down the stairs, the stairs were on fire. I knew I wouldn't be able to get down them. I sure couldn't get out the window, so I crawled into the bathroom right into the shower. I was able to lift myself up enough to turn the shower on. That's the last thing I remember." 	
Hank looks over at Severide, he can see he is pissed. 
Dr. Rhodes looks at both men, "Gentlemen, I think we should let Shaylynn rest." 	 
Hank gives Shaylynn another hug and a kiss on the forehead. 	
Severide kisses her and gives her a hug. 
He whispers in her ear, "I love you".
She whispers back, "I love you, too".
He gives her another kiss while he stands up. 
The guys walk out of the ICU. 
"I'll keep her in ICU for another hour to keep an eye on her. Everything goes good, then I'll have her moved to a regular room" Dr. Rhodes tells Severide and Hank. 	 
Dr. Rhodes walks back into the ICU.
Hank looks over at Severide, "When Shaylynn said something about Hadley, I saw your face. Wasn't that the firefighter who was setting fires?" 	
"YES! He's in jail so I don't understand how he could do something like this. Where would he get the money?"
"You would be surprised what can be done from jail and the places money can come from" Hank tells Severide.
"Another thing I don't understand is WHY would he do this for. At this point I don't care! I need to talk to Boden. Are you going to be staying around here?" Severide asks Hank. 	
"Yeah. I'm sticking around." 
"I'm going over to Bodens and tell him about what Shaylynn said. I'll be back in a while." 
Severide gets on the elevator and heads out of the hospital. 	 
Hank walks back into the ICU. 
He walks up to Dr. Rhodes, "Can I talk to you for a minute, Doc?" 
Dr. Rhodes walks away from the nurses desk. 
"I know there are some rooms in the hospital that have bigger beds for people who need them. Do you think Shaylynn could get one of those rooms?" 	 
Dr. Rhodes looks at Hank with a confused look, "Why would Shaylynn need one of those beds for?" 
"Well, Kelly isn't going to stay any where Shaylynn isn't. And those chairs that pull out into a bed, come on! You know how horrible those are. This way Kelly will have somewhere to sleep. What better medicine for Shaylynn then to have her husband with her. I'll pay for the extra cost." Dr. Rhodes sees what Hank is saying. "I'll see what I can do!"
                          
Severide heads over to Boden's house.
He knocks on the door. 
Donna opens it, "Hi Kelly!" 
"Hi Donna. Is Chief home?" 
"Yes, come in. Wallace, Kelly's here to see you. How is Shaylynn doing?" 	"She's good! She woke up." 
"Oh Kelly, that's great news!" 
Boden walks out of the kitchen, "Kelly, is everything okay? Is it Shaylynn?"
"Everything's fine. Shaylynn is okay. She's awake now." 
"That's great, Kelly!" 
"I will leave and let you guys talk." Donna tells them. 
"Sit down, Kelly. If Shaylynn's awake why are you here?" 	
"Hank was asking her if she could remember anything about the fire, she could. She said there was two guys in the house and she could hear them talking about how they had to hurry up and get down the stairs or they would have to go out a window. Also one of them asked the other if Hadley would pay more if he shot Shaylynn." 	 
Severide sees Boden get a weird look on his face. 
"Chief, what is it? You know something don't you?" 
"The Investigator got a hold of me. He found something and wanted to show me. What he found was the same thing Hadley used before. He was probably hoping this would look like a copycat, but since Shaylynn heard the guys talking and mention his name, now the investigator can speed up the process." 
Severide is pissed! He gets up and starts pacing. 
"Damn it! I even asked the investigator if he found anything and he shook his head no. He lied to me! Why would he do that for?!" 	 
"Cause of this, your reaction! Kelly, don't do anything stupid!"
