Brendon's POV
Brendon's knuckles turned white with the strain of how tight his fingers were wrapped around the wheel. His turns were stiff.
He glanced towards the passengers seat, and was a bit surprised to find that Alex's mouth was a thin, straight line. She had a smudge of grease on her face from their dinner, but he cracked a smile. She was still the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. His eyes veered back to the road, but a warm feeling resided in his chest from his short look.
Over the last ten minutes, he had been deciding on a place to actually take his girlfriend. After his parents, of all people, decided to interrupt his very important dinner, he subtly tried to get out of there as quickly as possible, but his silence gave him a chance to think and reestablish where he'd actually like to bring Alex to ask her... well, a question. His fingers drummed nervously against the wheel.
The dinner was fantastic, yes, but it didn't fully seem her style. Brendon nearly jumped out of his seat when next to him, Alex burst out in a fit of giggles.
"What?" he asked, suddenly feeling giddy. "What is it?" Her giggles turned into full-blown laughter, and he couldn't help but to join. If I never met this girl, he thought, I don't know what kind of person I'd even be.
He followed the exit off the highway, realizing suddenly how loudly they were laughing. He wiped a tear from his face. "What was that about?"
"I'm not sure, I just... This entire situation. Us finding each other again. I'm still not over it. I'm so in love with you, Bren."
A smile slipped onto his lips and his back straightened with a little more confidence as he pulled over to their destination. Maybe, just maybe, he could pull this off. Everything might go great. "I love you too. Now, get out. This is the best part of the night." He looked over and smirked at the questioning look on her face. "Just trust me."
"I do. Let's go."
