When I got home that morning, I was able to sneak in, my parents having gone to bed. I hung my clothes in my closet, switching into some comfier pajamas. I twirled quietly across my room, landing on my bed. "Good night." I said, pulling up my covers and closing my eyes tightly.
I fell asleep, dreaming of rain and little black kittens.
--------
When I woke up, sleep deprived, I tumbled into my clothes and walked slowly down the stairs. "Good morning, sweetie. Were you in late last night?" Mom asked, placing a plate of warm toast in front of me.
"Yeah. Mm, that smells so great... But I'll be late. Thanks mom, love you, bye!" I planted a quick kiss on mom's cheek, grabbed the toast, and ran down my stairs.
"Bye, Papa!" I called, rushing out the door.
I caught his greeting before making my way to the crosswalk. As soon as the light switched, I ran across the street. I finished my toast just as I made my way to the classroom door. To my delight, I was able to sneak in quietly. "Welcome, Ms. Dupain-Cheng." Alya greeted quietly.
"Why thank you, Ms. Césaire." I joked.
Class continued to drag on, but I think I used my time wisely by sketching random designs. When I grew bored of drawing clothes, I tried my hand at realism. Referencing the back of Adrien's perfect head, I sketched some hair. When I was finished, class was coming to a close, so I stuffed my things away and left, dragging Alya behind myself. "Let's go." I commanded playfully.
"But- ugh." Alya faltered off with a weird sound.
"Ooh, why, does Alya wanna see Nino?" I teased.
"No! No! That's not it! That's not it at all!" She said nervously.
"Nino!" I said, calling to the boy who'd just passed by.
"Eh?" He asked, turning around.
I didn't even notice Adrien standing next to him until he also turned around. "I was- uh wondering- you- Alya- tonight- seven o'clock." I stuttered out.
"Okay." Nino agreed easily.
"I can't." Alya said, standing awkwardly behind me.
"Why- Oh, right. Sorry Nino. Maybe when December's over." I shrugged.
"What's in December?" Adrien asked.
"Uh... Alya?" I asked, pushing her in front of me.
I gripped her shoulder in both hands, peeking over at Adrien. "I'm doing this thing." Alya simply said.
"Marinette!" Nathanaël approached.
"Hello." I stated.
"Will you go out with me?" He asked, confidence radiating off him in waves.
"Erm... Yes?" I asked.
"Alright! See you in a bit!" He said, turning on a heel and walking away.
"Wait- Marinette did you just-" Alya began.
"Oh crap. I did." I said.
"Wait, wait, wait, wait. Did Marinette just agree to go out with Nathanaël?" Nino asked.
"Apparently." Adrien concurred.
His lack of care kind of struck me in the heart. "Did I just?" I asked.
"Wait. Let me just process this." Adrien said, holding up a finger.
"Oh dear God." I said, at the same time Adrien announced: "Marinette you're going on a date with Nathanaël!"
