The alarm clock woke Jimin at 5:45, and he stumbled around his room, throwing on a holey white shirt with his usual dark skinny jeans, tripping into a pair of high top sneakers. He quickly ate some cereal, practically shoving it down his throat in his haste. He all but fell down the stairs when he was done, trying to wipe the sleep from his eyes. Shaking his head and making sure he was still in one piece, he opened the door and stepped into the back room of the flower shop. He repeated the same routine as every morning, except this one was filled with a lot more panic, knowing that Yoongi would be working with him. His gaze swept over the long table, and there was way too much stuff on it to clean up, so he quickly shoved everything into different piles based on what they were. He grimaced as he surveyed the table. At least there was enough space for them both to eat now. He glanced at the clock on the microwave, which read 5:57. His eyes widened and he ran through the store, hoping Yoongi wasn't there already. Thankfully, he wasn't, and Jimin unlocked the door and tried to tidy up the checkout desk, even though he had no intention of letting Yoongi behind it. He grabbed an apron, excited at the prospect of another person wearing one that matched his (he had had a bunch made, only to abandon the idea of co-workers). He was in the middle of trying to tie the strings behind his back when he heard the bell tinkle.
"Jimin?" He heard Yoongi yell.
"I'm at the checkout desk!" Jimin yelled back, suddenly afraid again of how Yoongi would act today. He quickly got his apron tied and apprehensively watched aisle three, but Yoongi didn't appear. He just didn't notice the blue-haired boy sneaking up on him from aisle one. Yoongi crawled quietly across the floor, and Jimin continued to stare intently at aisle three.
"Boo!" Yoongi jumped up from in front of the desk, and Jimin screamed and fell off his chair. Yoongi watched him, looking smug and satisfied, but no smile appeared on his face. Jimin told his heart to stop racing and emerged from under the counter, glaring at Yoongi.
"I can fire you at any moment, you know that, right?" He grumbled. Yoongi just shrugged.
"It was worth it," he said.
"It wasn't that funny," Jimin said, indignantly crossing his arms. He was starting to remember why he had never hired anyone in the first place.
"But your scream was so high-pitched!" Yoongi exclaimed. He pretended to wipe at his eyes while Jimin rolled his. "And plus, your hair is all messed up from falling off your chair." Yoongi reached out, and before Jimin could react, the other boy's cool hand was smoothing his hair across his forehead.
"There," Yoongi said, lidded eyes watching him with approval. "Much better." Jimin narrowed his eyes at Yoongi in distrust and checked his hair in the reflection of his dark phone screen. He was only half surprised when he saw that Yoongi really had fixed his hair nicely.
"So," Yoongi said, spinning in a slow circle, "are we gonna work or what?" Jimin's mouth formed an o and he whirled around, tossing Yoongi an apron over the counter. It hit Yoongi in the face, and Jimin giggled with vindication. Yoongi held it in front of him in dismay.
"I'm supposed to wear this?" He asked, and Jimin laughed. "It ruins the aesthetic of my outfit!" He complained, gesturing to his black shirt, denim jacket, and blue skinny jeans ensemble.
"While your outfit is nice, you're gonna have to wear that apron," Jimin said, suddenly aware that he was checking Yoongi out. It wasn't his fault that Yoongi was unfairly attractive. He coughed. "I know the apron is bright pink, but an old friend designed it for me and I can't say no to him. He's pushier than my own mom."
"Um..."
"It's a long story. Just put the apron on," Jimin said, and he tried to push down his sadness as he thought of Seokjin. He hadn't seen him for awhile. Hadn't kept in touch with anyone, really; he only seemed to get more introverted as time wore on.
