" in your head they're still fighting "
We filed into detention after school, all looking very pissed off. Most of us weren't even there for a reason, yet we were still having to waste our evening in the library with the joy that is Mr Harris.
I took a seat on the same table as Scott, Stiles and Erica. I'd learned that she knew how Jackson's parents died but wasn't willing to give up the information. I wasn't surprised, to be honest. I didn't exactly know her as a helpful person.
"Uh, we can't be in detention together," Jackson piped up self-righteously. "I have a restraining order against these tools,"
"All these tools?" Harris asked.
"No, just us tools," Stiles grumbled, he and Scott raising their hands.
"Fine. You two, over there," They moved one table away, leaving me alone with Erica. Oh, joy.Not even five minutes into the detention, Jackson began to groan. It wasn't an exasperated groan, though. It sounded like he was in pain. He was probably just faking something to get out so he could go home and murder some more people.
He got up and began to walk out.
"Are you okay?" Harris asked.
"I have to go to the bathroom,"
"You don't look so good," He was right, Jackson looked paler than usual and his face was contorted in pain.
"I just have to get some water,"
"No one leaves their seats," Harris addressed the rest of us, following Jackson out.
"Stiles says you know how Jackson's parents died," I said to Erica once he was gone.
"Maybe," She smirked.
"Talk," Scott demanded as he and Stiles slid into seats either side of us.
"It was a car accident. My dad was the insurance investigator and whenever Jackson drives by in his Porsche he makes some comment about the huge settlement he'll be getting when he's 18,"
"So, not only is Jackson rich now, but he's getting even richer at 18?" Stiles asked.
"Yep,"
"There's something so deeply wrong with that," He sighed.
"You know what? I could try and find the insurance report in my dad's inbox. He keeps everything," She offered. Wow, she was being incredibly helpful for someone who refused to help just minutes ago.
"Scott McCall, please report to the principal's office," The tannoy announced. He looked at us confusedly as he grabbed his stuff and headed out. Just as he left, Jackson returned looking shaken. Okay, he definitely wasn't faking it. His face was coated in beads of sweat and I could have sworn he was shaking like a chihuahua.
"Woah, look at the dates," Stiles said, drawing my attention back to the pair.
"Passengers arrived at the hospital DOA," Erica read. "The estimated time of death is 9:26 PM, June 14th 1995,"
"Jackson's birthday is June 15th," Stiles said, realisation dawning on his face. Just as he said that, Mr Harris got up to leave. We all picked up our bags and prepared to head home too.
"Oh no, I'm sorry," He laughed mockingly. "Yes, I'm leaving. You may go when you're done with the re-shelving. Enjoy the rest of your evening," He gestured to the full trolleys of books before sauntering out, looking incredibly pleased with himself. I let out a groan and got to work.
