Chapter 10: Past is Prologue (Part 2)

He went to the elevator, but looked towards Ne'veah's direction.

"You should keep her around here, Mal. She's been through so much since you been in the hospital. She cares for you deeply....I seen it with my own eyes since all of this happened. I know you are in a bad place, man, but....don't let her go. Not right now." Dad said solemnly, making me look at him with a face palm expression.

As soon as he left, I remained silent. After everything that happened, I didn't want anymore drama. I was still hurt, and I wanted to be alone with my thoughts. Even though Ne'veah has been the only main person that had made me smile every now and then, I still was depressed on everything. I went to my laptop and plugged in the flashdrive. I silently listened to Freda rap and it sounded dope. After a few minutes, I stopped the music. I said I didn't want to do this singing anymore, but something gave me a nerve to pull back to the keyboard. I started to write down some lyrics I wanted to try out and started singing them.

"There's been a few times you cried..." I cleared my throat to get get a little better, "And even more times they lied....Messing with the wrong crowd, feeling like a big cloud's..." I trailed off and went towards the piano to sing it.

Ne'veah POV:

I suddenly woke up hearing the sounds of a keyboard. I looked around a little to see I was still at Jamal's house. Damn, I overslept. I looked up to see that Jamal was singing some lyrics. And unfortunately, I knew something happened when I was sleeping because I heard talking while half-sleep. I softly sat up, listening to him. I'm glad he was getting back to himself, I really didn't like to see him all.....different, if I could recall.

"Suddenly the guards they changed....I'm whispering your name..." He sang. I quietly went up to him,

"Couldn't handle being away from music, huh? I take it you wrote that, didn't you?" I asked him, making him look up at me. Jamal put his little notebook down,

"Yeah..maybe." He said lowly. I looked at him curiously,

"I could tell I'd missed something while I was out. What happened?" I asked softly.

Jamal sat there in silence for a moment.

"....Lucious came by today."

I stared at him with a quirked eyebrow,

"What for?"

"....He wanted to give me something. I went ahead and took it from him." Jamal said.

"What was it?"

"Freda..." He answered. I gave him no expression, he knew I had a grudge over Freda at the moment, so he slowly gave the answer.

I sighed a little.

"Well, I guess that Freda's taking this well? I hope she's not becoming America's Next Top Thug." I said flatly.

Jamal gave me a blank look.

"That's what Dad told me, she actually faced the consequences. He also said he ended the whole violence." Jamal cleared.

"And why do I have the feeling that it's not?" I said sarcastically, "I know Lucious, and as a matter of fact, we both know Lucious. He can say that it's over, but things don't stay clean forever. That's one of the reasons why I can't do this anymore. I want it to end also, Jamal...but I don't think it'll end officially."

Jamal turned to me,

"Yeah, I know..." He trailed off, looking deeply into my eyes.

"Listen," I came closer to him, "I know we've been through rough, but we'll survive through it. Out of all of these people in this family, you are remarkable. You just want peace and resolution, and I agree with that 1,000 percent. You do have a big heart, Jamal...and that says something. That's one of the reasons why I admired you because you're you." I confirmed.
