Okay I'll admit, not the most exciting chapter ever, but please bear with me because it needs to be there

<<<Day 39>>>

Indistinct voices buzzed around in the darkness of her mind. They echoed there, as if coming from a great distance, overlapping each other, blurring, rending their words unintelligible. Adelina tried to ignore them, to fall back into sleep's peaceful embrace, but the voices persisted, nagging at the edge of her consciousness. They were too loud to ignore, as if they were speaking directly into her ears. Groaning, she muttered a weak "leave me alone" before letting her mind wander back into the black oblivion of unconsciousness.

"When is she going to wake?" one voice asked.

"Soon," answered another simply.

"What she did... throwing you..." the first voice sounded as if it didn't know how to formulate its question. "Did she- She used magic?"

At that, her curiosity peaked. She had only ever known Pan to be able to wield magic. Who was this magical girl they were talking about?

"Yes," the voice who seemed to hold all the answers replied. "It was only a matter of time before it manifested." There was a low chuckle, yet Adelina hadn't found anything amusing. "But I hadn't expected it to be so soon."

The voices were silent for a moment and Adelina could've smiled, had she had any control over her slumbering body. Finally, some peace and quiet.

"What are you going to do with her now?" the first voice asked softly. If she could've, Adelina would've groaned at the return of the annoying voices that wouldn't let her sleep.

"For now, all we need to worry about is having her become a lost girl."

Adelina didn't understand. Wasn't she supposed to be the one and only girl to join the lost boys? Had Pan and Felix been lying to her? Was there another girl on the island that they'd been hiding?

"But, what happens to her after that?" the voice insisted.

There was a slight rustle of fabric, as if one of them had shrugged. "She'll become part of the family, and will carry on just as if she were another lost boy."

"But what about her magic?"

"I don't know, Felix. I haven't had the time to think about it," the second voice snapped impatiently. "Unless you haven't noticed, I've been quite busy lately, taking care of the mess she made."

"But shouldn't we wake her? It's been long enough."

"Let her rest some more. Her body needs it."

For the second time, the voices fell silent, and stayed that way. Adelina smiled contentedly in her slumber.

"Adelina..." A gentle hand shook her shoulder. She groaned. "Adelina, wake up." The soft voice tried to lure her out of the pleasant haze of sleep, but she refused to leave its simple peacefulness for the chaos of the real world. Everything was so much simpler in the darkness. "Adelina!" The gentleness evaporated into a harsher, more demanding tone as it shook her harder. An unexpected pain flared up in her shoulder.

Not wanting to be shaken again, Adelina grumbled and begrudgingly opened her eyes. Felix smiled as he saw her wake up.

"What?" she croaked through her parched throat. Her vision was still blurry, but she could distinguish something rectangular that was stretched across his face.
