"Why on earth would you voluntarily help poor people?" Olivia asks Luna shocked at her news. Luna has decided to do some good, so she volunteered to be a nurse at the hospital for those who can't pay for a better one. Not many people work there, so I am very proud of Luna for giving them an extra hand.
"Of course. They need all the help they can get, and I want to do something that makes me feel good about myself." Luna defends herself.
"Well, I am very proud," I tell Luna with a big smile, and I quickly get one in return before she sips at her tea.
After Harry, and I decided to head back we both separated ways. My sisters were already in a deep discussion once I came home, so all I did was sit down, and get some tea.
"I, however, think it's a waste of time. You should rather be out looking for a potential husband. Do you know how embarrassing it is being our ages, and single." She says with an overdramatic sigh while she leans back on the couch.
"You have to remember Luna is only sixteen, and I am perfectly fine with being single. Not everyone is spying out for marriage." I shake my head disapprovingly, tired of her constant need to make us find a man.
"Better to start sooner than later, and besides we are getting low on money," Olivia says with some part directed towards Luna, but also some part directed towards me reminding me of our money problem.
"I am looking, and I'm going to meet the one tomorrow, I can feel it," Luna says excitingly.
"Oh, like you feel every night?" Luna and Olivia do not look pleased with my words. I roll my eyes and stand up. "I think I am going out for a little while," I inform them, feeling like I can't be here a second longer.
"But you just arrived," Olivia asks confused.
I do not answer her as I walk out the door shutting it behind me. I walk along the stone fence as I watch the stream run in-between this street, and the one on the other side. I never understood why they didn't remove that lake when they built the town, but I am also very grateful they didn't. If they did I would have no lake to seek peace by.
I get snapped out of my thoughts when the sound of cry's fill my ears. I look up at the bridge figuring that it's most likely where it is coming from. I see a girl leaning over the stone fence letting her tears fall down into the river below her. Even though her hair is short it manages to cover her face. I move closer to her by making my way onto the bridge. Once I am beside her I lean my elbows down on the stone fence. "What is the cause of your tears?" I ask looking at her, she lifts her head. She wasn't surprised to hear my voice so I figure she heard me coming.
"My father forbid me to marry the one I love." She says letting yet another tear roll down her cheek.
"Why is that?" I ask now intrigued to hear the story.
"He thinks he is too poor." She says looking down at the ground.
"Who cares about what your father thinks. If you really love this man then marry him." I tell her not understanding how she can let her father forbid her of happiness. I do not believe there is much chance for love when it comes to me, but that does not mean I do not believe in it for others. Many are lucky to find someone who is a little bit different from the rest.
"You don't understand. My father will throw me to the streets." She says letting out a huge sigh as if the problem was obvious.
"So? Let him. Live with this love of yours." I tell her making her look up at me once again.
"He can barely pay for his own living." She tells me yet again reminding me of his lack of money.
"Then build a house. Steal the material if you have to. I promise you that if you live in a big, small, or a house you have built yourself will not matter as long as he is there with you. It will be worth it, and then you can get married, and start a family." I tell her with encouragement hoping she will get a clearer view of things.
"You know what? I will. I am going to discuss it with him tonight." She looks at me with a bright smile the tears now long forgotten. "But just so you know I do not wish for children, so we won't start a family."
"Does he feel the same way?"
"No, but he respects my decision." I only nod. I have nothing against women who don't want children, but I do not know what to say. I want children someday if I find someone worth sharing that with.
"What is his name?" She has yet to mention the name of this boy she loves so dearly.
"Louis." She reveals, and I remember she has not mentioned her own name either.
"And yours?"
"Amber."
I look at her with a smile. "That's the color of my eyes," I tell her, but she most likely already know.
"I can see that." She laughs. "Maybe we were supposed to meet." She says again with a weak laugh. I smile at her wondering how she could go from a total wreak to happy in less than a few seconds. "What is your name?"
"Mira."
"Oh, I have heard about you." I already know a lot of people in this little town talks about me from time to time, but I do not bother finding out what it is they are saying. "Well, I think you are awfully wise when it comes to love for someone who hasn't felt it herself." She says it as a compliment, and in some way it is. I don't bother asking how she knows since it's most likely one of the things that people have said. "I am so sorry, Mira, but I do need to get going. I have something important to talk to Louis about. Thank you so much for the great advice." She says giving me a tight hug. When she pulls back she rests her hands on my shoulders. "If someone in this world deserves to be loved it's you. I think you have waited long enough." I don't say anything in returns, instead, I smile breathing out a weak laugh, nevertheless very thankful for her kind words. She lets go of my shoulder. "Goodbye, Mira."
"Goodbye, Amber. Say hello to Louis from me!" I almost yell after her while she walks away.
"I will!" She yells back waving at me. I wave in return before I walk in the opposite direction heading home knowing it will get dark soon.
