Adam laid on his side, wondering where Mark was. Was he sick?
"Adam, honey, come here." His mother picked up Adam, placing him on her lap.
"What is it, mommy?" Adam's small eyes peaked with interest. His 3rd birthday was just yesterday.
"When you get older, you're going to be left in the dust multiple times." Adam was too young to understand at the time. "But just remember, that there's always something on the other side." His mother smiled weakly.
Adam now understood. But, what was on the other side? Adam groaned in frustration. Without someone by his side, will he make it up that hill, mountain, past that river or ocean? Support is what he needs right now, and lot's of it.
Adam shut his eyes, and then suddenly it happened. A huge cramp in his pelvis.
"OW! WHAT THE HELL-" Adam screeched, when suddenly the door slammed open. It was nurse. She looked flustered. Her cheeks were red and her hair was a mess. She looked like she came back from passing out.
"Are you okay?! No, don't squeeze the painful part!" She scurried over and slapped his hand away. She then proceeded to put an ice pack on where Adam was gripped.
"IT HURTS SO BAD." Adam squealed. "AND IT'S COLD!" Adam wailed.
"Shut up and take it like a man!" The nurse pouted, her hand reaching out towards a nearby cabinet.
"Let's see... will cramping pills help? Wait, that's only for girls during their menstrual cycle. Will it work on men?" She thought aloud, gazing at Adam who was complaining about the cold ice pack.
"Well, do what Mark says! Shut up nurse, I know what's best!" The nurse smiled. She didn't need to think, she needed to go with it! She grabbed a pink pill and handed it to Adam. He swallowed it dry and groaned.
"What the hell." Adam grunted, rolling onto his stomach. "Where's Mark?" Adam asked, turning his head towards the nurse.
The nurse looked down, her frantic behavior thrown away. "Ah, he's, well, he took a sick day." Nurse explained.
Adam gave her a look.
"It's nothing really. I simply told him 'no'." Nurse answered simply, shrugging.
"But 'no' is a big statement." Adam replied.
