That morning I was looking through pictures of me and Allison. Malia was sitting on my bed skimming through them as well with a frown on her face, and I knew that wasn't one from jealously. It was one of sadness."I wish I knew her more." She whispered, glancing up at me with glossy eyes, "Was she your first girlfriend?"
I shook my head, sitting next to Malia I wrapped my arms around her. "No, I wouldn't say that." I pause, "She was close though, we were something I couldn't explain. Best friends, but... more."
"If she hadn't died that night... you probably wouldn't be with me." Malia whispers, placing the photos in the box.
I watch her with a frown, "No, no I guess not. I guess everything really happens for a reason." I say and Malia shakes her head.
"I hate that saying." She muttered and I gave her a confused look.
"Why?"
"Not everything happens for a reason, things just happen, and most the time. It's unfair and shitty, it's not like my mother decided she would up and leave one morning and take my sister with her, it's not like an innocent girl dying was for a reason." She sighed, "Sorry, I didn't mean to come across rude there."
"It's okay." I say softly before pressing a soft kiss to her cheek. "At least look on the bright side, my mom let you back into our house."
A cheeky grin danced across Malia's lips as she kissed me on my lips with a sudden rush of passion. "Don't forget that she's making us keep the door open now." She chuckled and I giggled in response.
"We should do something tonight." I commented and Malia raised an eyebrow.
"Like what?" She smirked and I gently punched her in the shoulder.
Casting her a joking glare I grinned, "Get your head out of the gutter missy. I was talking about a date or something."
Malia nodded her head in agreement, "Where do you wanna go?"
I shrugged my shoulders, "The movies? We haven't gone in a while." I commented and I felt Malia stand, sighing in frustration from the lack of warmth I stood with her. "It could be fun."
My eyes drifted to the box of photos on the floor again and my heart ached. I was still healing from the accident, more than I wanted to let on. Reaching over I took Malia's hand, interlacing our fingers I focused on her. Without her, I didn't know how I could've made it this far.
Allison would have liked her.
I grin at the thought and turn back to face my stunning girlfriend who was watching me with a concerned look on her face, "Are you sure your okay?" She asked softly and I nodded my head.
Walking out of my room I felt Malia start to let go of my hand but I quickly held onto it tighter. My mother was sitting on the couch and I watched her quickly notice our interlocked hands, but she didn't scowl. Instead, she gave me a cheeky grin;
"Lydia, your lipstick is smudged." She commented casting me a wink before turning back to her phone and I watched as Malia's face literally lit up like a tomato.
"Always looking out for me." I hummed back as I pulled my lipstick from my bag to reapply it.
