Chapter 13 - Making It Right (Atticus Rigby POV)

No child wants to actively disappoint their parents... sometimes it does not matter that you've had the worst experience with them, there is still some love hidden deep inside that sometimes causes more hurt than not.

Some parents, though you would think all people thought of their child as a blessing, they do not. Their children are merely pieces meant to show off when necessary. "Let's have a baby, I mean it's the next practical step for us... we have the secure employment, married, own a house together... children come next." And there was nothing wrong with that idea, but what I saw problematic was, "we need to have two children so that it asserts us in that world – we can show them off – brag to our friends of their accomplishments and make sure that child is manipulated to do as we say at all times..." granted it was never said out loud in such a way... it was carried out that way.

My parents? Neither of those could be considered true in their case. They told my siblings and I repeatedly, that their love for one another led to them having us, children that they could smother with love and affection. However at some point, I think all of that got tainted especially with when it came to the Wests... but spending nearly two lifetimes with a group of people as your closest confidants would probably do that to you. That's not to say that the Wests were bad influences or had bad morals, but loyalty was as thick as blood between my father, Lincoln and Magnus West.

"From the beginning son," my mother tells me as I sit before them, and I know that in a way that everything I unload from my heart right now is going to disappoint my father, test the bond he has built with Magnus West – Gwen's father. I look down at the table unsure where I could even begin with what I had to say about Mya, about this entire situation, about Gwen and our daughter Lynn, about Eliza... I had made mistakes but Eliza... what she and Gwen did to me was worse.

"I don't know where to even begin-" I start off earnestly when I'm interrupted by a knock on the door, my mother glances between it and my father and with that one look I know it's one of the Wests, but hope that it is at least not Gwen. "Really?" I ask my parents, shaking my head.

"Yes, Magnus came with us but that is because we needed to speak with you Atticus-"

"Me and Gwen?" I speak slowly, "We. Are. Done."

I lean forward, "I can live for a thousand years, and marrying her will still be the biggest mistake and regret of my whole life." My mothers' eyes widen in surprise, and my father is the one that goes to the door and lets his friend – almost like a brother – inside my home. I lean back, not saying a word, waiting until Magnus and his narrowed brown eyes are before me, sitting next to my father on the left, my mother on his right. "I – I have known you your whole life Atticus, how – how can you treat someone you love in this way-"

"Either you remain quiet or you get out, Magnus," my mother says as I open my mouth to answer him myself, "if you want answers, you will let Atticus speak," she scolds, turning to me.

"Before I start..." I focus on Magnus, "if what I tell you is printed anywhere publicly, I will ruin Gwen... she was sitting in the common area with Eliza and Manny, I have her on recording saying that she drugged me, and there is not a single news company that wouldn't like to have that little juicy piece of information."

"How dar-"

"Your daughter drugged me, was intimate with me all because she didn't want to lose me, because I had gotten into Stanford and was planning on moving to the states."
