When he was a teenager, Mycroft was constantly harassed for his appearance, brain, and mostly sexuality. After years of torture, when the boy was seventeen, he sat Sherlock down- nose still bleeding heavily from a right hook- and told him how it truly was okay to be homosexual, straight, asexual, etc. It is the reason why Sherlock was so defensive during the "It's all fine" scene. He knew it was.
