C h a p t e r T w o ― Just Go With The Flow
Cole's Point Of View
"Cole! My pop sensation! How are ya buddy?" Matt's voice is edgy but polite, exactly how you'd think it would sound.
"Cut the crap, Matt. How come none of my records are selling?" I say in an equally edgy tone. He nods and the smile that was on his face simply deminshed. He heaves out a big sigh.
"Look I didn't want to tell you this but.. the label is considering dropping you." He wanders his eyes away from mine, not letting me see how he feels. A few slient moments.
I hear Matt clear his voice, then he begins to talk. "I haven't told you anything wrong in the years I've been producing you. Here check this out."
He hands me a couple of pages. I look at them and then I realize that they were a song. The song was written beautifully. It started to get me ticked up. Who can write better than Cole Roberts? I thought.
I clear my throat. "What is this, Matt?" My un-calmed nerves are detectable in my voice and visible in the way I fiddle with my fingers.
"It's your brand new single." -a short pause- "I know you would usually write the songs but buddy you really need this song...and the girl who wrote it." The way he says 'girl' really gets me alarmed. "What 'girl', Matt? What is this all about? Are you saying what I think you're saying?" I yell. I really don't want to hear the word songwriter out of his mouth... Or anyone's mouth in that order.
