Avery Jordan
--"But what if they don't like me, August? What if my fingers are too fat or something?"
"Avery, did you just hea' yourself. Why would they not like ya? I like like ya. So I'm sho' they will too."
"But what if my bruises are too ugly? You know they haven't healed enti--"
"JOSEPHINE!" Aug screamed at me.
"Calm down. I said you'a be good and you will. Na let's go before we be late." He said, surprisingly making me calm down a bit.
Tomorrow is Halloween, which means I'm meeting his family today. So, naturally, I was nervous.
"I'm ready." I said, stopping at the door. "Do you have your costume for tomorrow?" I asked.
"Do I look like I have a fuckin costume?" He said, looking a bit annoyed as he side eyed me.
He stared at me for a moment with an unreadable expression before letting out a breath.
"I'm sorry, baybeh." He said, kissing my forehead. "Cha got tha costumes at tha house."
"You ready ta go na?"
"Yes." I said simply with a slight smile.
--
A few hours later, we pulled up to a beautiful house.
Aug got out and opened my door for me.
"You ready?" He asked with our faces inches apart.
"As ready as I'll ever be." I said.
"You'll be fine. Leggo." He said, taking my hand & leading us to the front door.
He knocked a few times before we heard a voice.
"Who is it?!" The voice asked.
"Nigga, who you think?!" Aug said with a smile.
A few seconds later, the door swung open and revealed a tall, tattooed man with a beard.
"Aug, my nigga!!" The man said hugging August.
"CheKre!! Waddup man?!" They hugged for what seemed like hours before they pulled apart.
"Avery, this is my cousin Chello." He said.
"Or you can call me Chel or Kre. Don't matta." He said.
"Pleasure to meet you." I said, sticking my hand out.
He held a puzzled look on his face as he looked at Aug.
"You ain't tell ha or some'n?"
"Tell me what?" I asked as August laughed.
"You tha first woman Aug eva brought home, which makes ya famm." He said pulling me into a hug.
