Watching Malia skateboarding had become a new favourite activity of mine. Something about watching her move so elegantly along the pavement, her brown hair whisking in the wind. It was beautiful. Malia was pretty good at it too, she tried to show off some of her tricks but sometimes they would end with scrapes and bruises and a very worried me.At times Scott and Stiles would show up and watch too. Stiles sometimes bringing his own skateboard and trying to keep up with Malia but usually failing terribly. Scott would sit down next to me and laugh, handing me food that he had brought with himself.
"You ever gone skateboarding?" I asked one afternoon as Stiles had challenged Malia to a racing competition.
Scott shrugged, "I used too, but I broke my skateboard in two in an accident and I don't have the money to replace it."
"I'm sure you could use Stiles' sometime." I say glancing over to the shaggy brown haired boy. But he shook his head.
"Ever since I hurt myself I'm kinda nervous about riding them ya know?"
I paled, feeling guilty. "Totally, I'm sorry." But Scott smiled.
"Nah don't worry."
"You're cheating!" Stiles cried from the ground, his skateboard tucked underneath Malia's arm who had a mischievous grin on her face.
"Come on foxy boy!" She cried, coming to a stop in front of me and Scott. She passed the board to Scott who took it while laughing. Stiles board was similar to Malia's but instead of a coyote he had a fox painted on.
"Did you paint that one too?" I asked as Malia nodded her head.
"Scott used to have a wolf until he broke it."
"Scotty boy, give me my board back!" I heard the sarcastic boy yell as he was now jogging over to were we all stood. "Please." He begged as Scott shook his head.
"Sit." He commanded as Stiles rolled his eyes, sitting down next to his boyfriend.
Stiles looked over to me and grinned, "I'm surprised your still hanging out with us."
"Yeah," Scott added in, "When did you decide to hang out with the queer kids of the school?"
I shrugged, "Being queer isn't who you guys are. It's just a part of you. Your personalties are pretty spot on and you guys accepted me as part of your group."
"And you don't want to be around Aiden." Malia added in.
Quietly I nodded my head. And Stiles laid back onto the grass, "You're cool, I like you so you can stay." He says simply, out of the corner of my eye I see Scott roll his eyes at Stiles remark.
"And even if he didn't like you, we'd just ignore him." He beams at me as I feel a large grin stretch its way onto my face. I liked these kids, sure my popularity had taken a large drop. But the older I got the more I realized that being popular wasn't everything.
"Oh shit." I hear Malia say above me, turning around I tried to figure out what her eyes were on. It seemed a group of people were heading towards the park where we were sitting. The closer they got the sooner I made out a familiar face, Theo.
Sitting up Stiles growled, "Oh that fucker... come on Scott we are going. Now." He reached down to take Scott's hand and pull him to his feet with us.
"Oh look at that!" Theo cried as him and his crew jogged forward more, "It's the queer kids. And who is that? Lydia Martin? What are you doing hanging out with them?"
"Let's just leave them alone." I hear a soft voice say from behind Theo. Liam Dunbar had a frown on his face. "We just came here to hang out, it doesn't mean that they can't stay too."
"We were leaving anyways." Snapped Stiles as he grabbed Scott's wrist and started to drag him away.
"Oh! Are you grabbing his wrist because you're too scared to grab his hand." Theo mocked, "Face it Stiles, you can't hide much longer and god knows what his dad will do once he knows that Scott is gay." Anger started boiling inside me, I hated being angry.
But I hated Theo more.
Slap! I whipped my hand across Theo's face before marching forward.
"Now we're going." I say flatly.
"Ooooh, Lydia, loosing your popularity are we? Is this what you resort to when you loose your boyfriend and best friend? What was her name again? Allison?"
The name felt like a shot to my stomach, whipping around fire was ignited in my veins, "Don't you ever say her name." I snarled. And he raised his hands in defence.
"Chill out." He laughed.
"She's dead, you prick! And you're telling me to chill out?"
"Lydia." Malia says to me urgently. "We should just go."
Sighing I fell the anger rush out of me and was quickly replaced with sadness. Ducking my head down to hide the tears that were threatening to come. I nodded my head and turned away from the group of kids, "Sorry." I whispered.
Walking away, the group didn't say a word as I felt Malia place a hand on my shoulder for comfort. "I miss her." I whispered and Malia gave me a sad smile.
"I never really knew her, but she helped me up once when I was shoved to the ground. Just being around her you could feel her happy energy." She says wistfully.
"She was my best friend. I held her as she died and I couldn't do a thing."
"I'm so sorry." Malia repeated and I could only shake my head.
"Don't be, it happened over a year ago now. I need to move on but it haunts me every night."
"It was the mugging accident right?" Stiles asked from in front of us, I noticed that he was now holding Scott's hand as he turned around to face me. "My dad was on the case."
"Yeah, they never caught the people who did it. We were just leaving a movie, and someone ran up to us. He had a mask on and he demanded for our bags. I was giving him mine but the guy lost it." I stopped, my heart quickened as the memories filled my vision.
"Do you want to talk about down thing else?" Malia interrupted as she realized my distressed state.
My eyes fell to the ground, "There isn't much more to it anyways."
The rest of the way home we walked in silence. Slowly I reached my hand forward until I found Malia's, I interlaced my fingers with hers because at the moment I only wanted comfort. The girl seemed surprised as her head jerked up to look at me with confusion but I didn't meet her eyes.
I just needed to know that someone was there for me.
Author Note - I'm still not over Allison's death. I never will be. I'm sorry.
I don't know how fast I should pace Malia and Lydia's relationship in this book. I just need to keep the story exciting you know?Anyways please vote and comment your thoughts!
