Chapter 1
"Ellie, wake up! Ellie, you're going to be late!"
This is how I started each morning. My aunt always yelled up to my room that I was running late for school or to tell me that breakfast was ready, and if I didn't hurry up and get my butt downstairs it would get cold.
Let me take some time to explain what's going on and who I am. My name is Ellie Wilson, but that wasn't always my name. My parents told me when I was eight that I was adopted. I guess my birth mother left me on the doorstep of an orphanage and just took off. Do I care? Not really. I had a great life...until that horrible day of January 17, 2006.
My parents and I were going to visit my aunt (who just happens to be the same person that was yelling for me earlier). That day the weather had been pretty bad. It was snowing so much that I couldn't see out of the car window, and the road was slick and icy. My dad was driving, and my mum was sitting next to him in the passenger seat. I was sitting in the back by myself trying to look out my window at the passing cars. I guess my dad couldn't see very well, and we ended up crashing into two other cars. The impact was bad. Thankfully, no one in the other cars got hurt, but the exact opposite happened to my parents. I had a few minor injuries but theirs were really bad. There was a gash in my dad's forehead that seemed quite deep. My mum didn't have a seat belt on. She nearly went straight through the windshield. I think you get the picture of what happened that day. My parents died on impact, and I watched the whole thing happen.
After that, everything in my life changed. I had to move in with my aunt and her son. I had to transfer schools. And I had to recover from that terrible day. I didn't talk for a month after the accident. When I finally did, my aunt was relieved. She thought I would never talk again. My cousin eventually moved out and went to college. So it was just me and my aunt now. Sad story, I know.
Sometimes I wonder if my birth mother ever regretted leaving me on that doorstep. I wonder if I have any siblings. Maybe a younger brother or sister. I wonder what it's like to have siblings. I'm an only child. My mother wasn't able to have children which is why she and my dad adopted me when I was ten months old. It makes me the happiest person alive to know they had plenty of other babies to choose from, and they decided to pick me. My mum always used to tell me that when she saw me, lying in that crib, she wanted to take me home with her.
I miss my mum a lot. It's been seven years since my parents died, and I still haven't gotten over it. I don't think I ever will.
"Ellie!" my aunt called again. I didn't realize I was still in bed. I checked the time on my phone and saw that it was 6:30. I had a half an hour to get ready. Good thing I got a shower last night.
"I'm up!" I finally yelled back. I heard my aunt leave the stairs and go back into the kitchen.
Time to get ready for my last day of my junior year. High School goes by so fast. It seems like just yesterday I was roaming the halls as a freshman at Hayfield High School. I brushed my brown hair with blond highlights and braided it down my back. I pulled on some black skinny jeans and a t-shirt. Once I was dressed and I had everything I needed for my day(which wasn't much), I ran down the stairs nearly ran into my aunt.
"Whoa slow down, Ellie," she said to me as I regained my balance.
"Sorry, Aunt Jen," I said as she kissed my forehead.
"Breakfast is ready." I set my purse by the front door and followed my aunt into the kitchen. I fixed myself a plate and sat down at the breakfast bar. "Once you're done, I'll drive you to school. Don't forget I won't be here when you get home. So call me if you need anything." I nodded my head in response as I ate my breakfast.
Once I was done, we left for school. The car ride was mostly silent aside from the radio playing in the background. I turned it up slightly.
"Alright, ladies and gentlemen. Boys and girls. It's the moment you've all been waiting for. We're going to call the lucky winner of the Spend a Weekend with Louis Tomlinson contest," said the radio announcer. I could feel a smile make its way across my face.
"Didn't you enter that contest?" Aunt Jen asked me.
"Yeah, but what are the odds of me winning?" I replied.
"Don't doubt yourself. You have just as much chance of winning than every other person who entered."
I smiled at her. "Thanks, Aunt Jen. I love you."
"I love you too sweetie. Now hush!" I directed my attention back to the radio.
"Our lucky winner will have the chance to meet the rest of One Direction. Alright I think I've made you wait long enough. Let's call the lucky winner." I had my phone in my hand when it started ringing! I didn't know what to do. I was the winner! They were calling me!
I finally snapped out of my daze and answered the phone. "Hello?" I said as my voice cracked.
"Hello. Is this Ellie Wilson?" asked the person on the other end. I nodded until I realized he couldn't see me.
"Yes," I answered my voice barley audible.
"Congratulations, Ellie! You won! You get to spend a weekend with Louis Tomlinson!" I couldn't hold it back any longer. An ear splitting scream escaped my lips before I had time to think. The guy on the other end let out a slight chuckle. Aunt Jen was smiling like crazy next to me. She mouthed the words I told you so. I smiled at her. "Ellie, we would like for you and your family to come down to the station as soon as possible. Louis is here in the studio ready to get this weekend started."
"That's right, love. Get your cute little butt down here immediately so we can get this weekend started. I have some pretty fun things planned. Get ready for the best weekend of you life, Ellie!" I heard Louis say through the phone.
I looked over at Aunt Jen and pleaded with my eyes to convince her to let me go and skip school. She smiled at me and nodded. I let my smile grow even bigger at her answer. "I'll be down in an hour or so," I replied.
"Alright, get your things for this weekend. Bring anything you think you might need. We'll be waiting for you," said Louis.
"Okay, bye guys!" I squealed as I hung up the phone. Aunt Jen turned the car around so I could get my things for this weekend. I was so excited. I can't believe I won. I wasn't really expecting to win, but I did! This was unbelievable! What could possibly go wrong?
