Chapter 1: Where Our Story Begins

Start from the beginning

We both practically collapsed against the wall of the alleyway, breathing heavily.
"Now...tell me what the hell...is going on," I said, between breaths.
"I...ran away," she muttered.
"Ran away? From where?" I replied. She was about to answer, when we heard voices from both ends of the alley.
"Ma'am, you need to stop right now!" One of them shouted. I recognised their uniform- they were council guards.
"Are you a criminal or something? But why are they calling you ma'am?!" I said angrily. "We're dead..."
The girl then stood up straight, her eyes sharp.
"Please stand back," she said softly.
"W-What do you plan to do? Don't tell you're a secret assassin or something."
This made her laugh. "Just...don't distract me."
She raised her arms up separate ways, so that her hands were facing both men. Then she inhaled, and closed her eyes. The ground below her began glowing, and her cloak fell off of her, revealing her body. She was wearing a blue silk bikini style top that only covered her breasts, which was covered in diamonds and pearls. On her legs were balloon bloomer trousers that were the same shade of blue, with the same style of diamond design as her bikini. She wore a gold forehead tiara along with her beautiful blonde hair which was done up in a bun, apart from the bangs that hung by the sides of her face. Over her hair was a white silk veil that was so long, it fell to the floor. It was also connected to two gold bracelets, one on each arm, so that it moved along with her hands. She was the god damn most prettiest thing I'd ever seen.
"W-Wow..." I muttered, staring in awe. The glow beneath her only grew brighter, until her clothing started flowing as if there wind blowing from the light.
"Don't tell me...you're a Rosafelt child?" I muttered. She glanced at me over her shoulder, and smiled.
"No...I'm not a child," she replied.
"Wait, at your age...that can only mean..." I gasped, unable to believe what I was saying.
"You're Lucy Heartfila? The Lucy Heartfilia?" I asked, shocked. She laughed, smiling.
"Yep!"

Lucy chanted two words. "Regalus impact." As she spoke, the Leo zodiac sign shined on her chest, and on her hands.
The men on both sides were blasted backwards, by two beams that emerged from Lucy's palms.
"Come on," she said innocently.
I'd never seen magic before- I was still frozen with shock.
"W-What the hell was that..." I muttered.
"It was magic, stupid," she replied. "Now quickly, they'll wake up soon!"
"You mean they're not..."
"No. I'm not killing anyone anymore," she muttered.
I was about to go with her, but I hesitated.
"Wait...why do you need me? You look like you can handle yourself," I asked.
"Because you're my friend, aren't you?" She replied, smiling at me. I stared at her like she was mad.
Friend...
I blushed slightly, embarrassed.
"D-Don't be stupid...I would just slow you down..." I muttered. She laughed, which caused me to stare at her with confusion.
"Since when do friends slow you down? They make you stronger," she said, beaming.
My mind wasn't making sense of it. I had ignored everyone for all these years...so why couldn't I say no to her? Like I'd done to everyone else?
Why...
"O-Okay," I said finally. "My name's Natsu. Natsu Dragneel."

"First, we need to get you some normal clothes. I'm sure some of Mira's clothes will fit you," I explained.
"Mira?" She asked.
"Yeah. She owns a bakery with her younger brother and sister," I replied.
When we arrived at the bakery, Lucy hid behind me as we entered.
"Natsu! So you're back already," Elfman shouted from the baking room.
"It's not like I have to return here, you know. It's not my home," I said back. Lisanna walked in with a tray of bread, and her eyes lit up as she saw Lucy.
"You brought someone?" She said, her eyes wide.
"S-She just needs some clothes, okay?" I muttered, embarrassed.
"Clothes? Why does she need clothes?" She asked. I gestured for Lucy to step forward, and she did.
"Well, she can't exactly walk around in this, can she?" I explained. Her eyes widened even more.
"W-Wait...are you- is she- a Rosafelt?!" She cried, speechless. "She looks like she's graduated, but that couldn't be, at her age..."
"My name's Lucy Heartfilia. It's nice to meet you," Lucy said, while performing a small curtsy. Lisanna dropped the tray she was holding.
"L-Lucy? Heartfilia?!" She cried. Elfman and Mira came running in due to the noise.
"Lisanna! Is everything-" Elfman stopped after seeing Lucy.
"Elf-niichan, That's Lucy Heartfilia! The Rosafelt!" She said immediately.
"Man, this is gonna be long day..." I muttered, annoyed.
