Chapter 39

Harry's POV

"You're the one who sent Emily those notes..." I said slowly. "What notes?" He asked. "Don't play dumb with me. You did contact Rick didn't you? You wrote these notes to scare Emily. Working together with your daddy, you're sick." He started to laugh a little. "Are you fucking serious? I just told you that my father left me. He never bothered to find me, to see how I was doing. Why would I want to find a man who doesn't even care about me?" I ran a hand through my hair, I didn't know if I should believe him or not. He's right though, if my father left me without any explanation I wouldn't want to contact him either. But this is Owen... A guy who's a fucking professional liar.

"It doesn't mean he didn't contact anyone at all though..." He quietly said. I furrowed my eyebrows and looked at him questioningly. "Rick doesn't have any contact with his family anymore besides his parents, at least that's what I've been told...until I found out that he talks on the phone with his nephew almost every day..." "Wait what...? You mean Daniel..." "Don't you think it's weird that Daniel happened to be at the same bar as Sarah, right after Emily ran away from home? Daniel and I were about to leave, we were supposed to go to America together, but suddenly he changed his mind and wanted to move to London. Not even a month later he moved in with Sarah."

I looked at the ground, I couldn't believe this. Sure Daniel wasn't my favorite person, but he seemed nice and I could tell Emily liked him as a friend. "But wait... Sarah and Emily were friends in high school but they kind of lost contact when she moved away. Sarah and Emily became friends again after Sarah already moved in with Daniel, there is no way he could have known that they were going to be friends again." "Well I guess he kind of hoped for it, maybe he even had something to do with their meeting. But think whatever you want, I just think it's all a little suspicious and I definitely would not let him near her again if I were you."

Fuck... "She's in his apartment right now..." I said quietly. "What? Why?" "I don't know, she said she went to Sarah's. Well at least she's not alone with him." "What the hell are you talking about? Sarah is with Thomas at some dumb festival or something." My eyes widened and my heart almost stopped beating. "You've got to be kidding me..." Fucking hell. "I need to go." I said and ran towards my car.

Emily's POV

"What do you mean he's not who I think he is?" I asked. "You remember that night I brought you home from the party right?" He asked. Of course I remember, I'll never forget how Harry and Vanessa got wasted that night. It felt like ages ago though, so much happened after that. "Yeah I remember," I said. "Remember what I told you about Owen?" He asked. "Yes, you told me that Owen was your cousin and he stayed with you because his mother died and his dad left him." He slowly nodded. "Well a few weeks ago his dad tried to contact him again. It's Rick, Emily. Rick is his father." I dropped my glass out of my hand, letting it shatter into a million pieces on the ground. I felt as if my heart stopped beating. "Oh god, I'm sorry I.." "No, no it's okay. This must be really hard for you to hear, Emily. But I thought you deserved to know the truth." So many thoughts were running through my mind. Does Owen know what kind of a monster his father is? Does he still speak with him? I looked at Daniel for a moment. "Wait a sec, how did you know about Rick?" "Oh well, Harry told me." "Harry told you?" "Yeah, when you were in the woods with Owen." "What, but I.." "You know I'm gonna clean this up okay? I'll be right back." He gave me a small smile and walked towards the kitchen.
