*Flume - The Greatest View ft. Isabella Manfredi*

-

I was at the station waiting for Chris and Derek to be released. Sheriff had come back from his litle trip from L.A. and he's releasing them, finally. I spotted Chris and rushed towards him.

"Good to be on the other side of those bars." he breathed out.

"Yeah, try to keep it that way." I said.

"Sorry, but I can't let you walk out with this. It's way above the legal voltage limit." Jordan said to Chris about his electric baton.

"I only use it for hunting." Chris defended.

"Yeah, well, I'm pretty sure you could use it to jump-start a 747."

"This property belongs to me and the charges were dropped." Chris said.

"Although, I'm not exactly sure who's responsible for that." Derek said. And right on cue, the sheriff walked into the room.

"I am. I'll take care of this, Parrish." Chris shook his head and I laughed at him. I walked over to Derek. I smiled at him.

"Chaos, strife, pain" A voice whispered in my ear. That's what Stiles said that night at the clinic, when he wasn't himself. I tilted my head to the left.

"It's too late" the voice continued.

"You're too late."

"Sammy" the sheriff's voice brought me back. He gestured for us to follow.

"The specialist I saw in LA told me the thing that every doctor says when he's trying to avoid a lawsuit, "we can't say for sure." And then I spoke with Melissa. These are brain scans. My wife's and Stiles'. " he handed Chris a set of scans, "I knew they were similar. But those are the same. Exactly the same." I peered over Chris's shoulder at them.

"And I'm guessing this isn't possible?" Derek asked.

"Not even remotely." the sheriff replied.

"So the trickster is still playing tricks." I said.

"But why this trick?" Derek asked.

"When I was in the Army, an officer told me, "If you want to defeat your enemy, "you don't take away their courage. You take away their hope." sheriff told us.

"You don't look like a man who gives up hope easily." Chris said to him.

"But Stiles might." I concluded.

"If this thing inside him, if it's using his mother's disease as some sort of psychological trick, then this isn't just a fight for his body. It's also a fight for his mind. Right?"

"You know, he's left people severely injured." Chris stated.

"And others severely dead." Derek added in.

"That's why I need the three of you. I need people who are experienced in this kind of thing. I need you to help me stop him."

"And by stop him, you mean trap him." Chris clarified. Sheriff nodded then handed him his baton. Time to come up with a plan.

We all headed to Chris's apartment where Allison was waiting. We waited in the office.

"This is everything non-lethal I could find." Allison said as she tossed more rope on the desk.

"Take all of it." Chris said.

"What's the plan here?" Sheriff asked.

"Our best shot right now is for Derek to try to pick up Stiles' scent at Eichen House.  Especially if he went through something stressful there." Chris said.

"Should all four of us be going to the same place?" I asked.

"Where else has Stiles been showing up?" Chris questioned.

"The school, the hospital-" Allison started.

"Okay, hold on." Derek interjected, "we did this already. He disappeared. We started looking for him. Then walked right into a trap at the hospital."

"He's getting us to repeat the same moves." Chris said.

"So, what do we do? Wait for him to come to us?" Allison asked

"We can't. Not if the oni find him when the sun goes down." I said.

"Scott's working on them right now, with Kira." Sheriff said.

"That's the problem. We're all trying to outfox the fox." Chris stated.

"Listen. I'll understand if anyone wants to back out." Sheriff said.

"The wolf isn't the first to run from a fox" Derek said, on board with the plan.

"Apparently I'm carrying the lightsaber." Chris said as he finished packing up.

"Dad, you, Sammy and Derek hit Eichen House. Sheriff, it's you and me in the hospital.
We all meet in the school." Allison ordered. I nodded my head. I was first to walk out of the room. I waited for Chris and Derek in the car. Halfway to Eichen house, sheriff texted Chris and said to meet at his house.

"What is all this? What are these sticky notes for?" Chris asked. I looked over the chessboard. Everybody's name was on a piece.

"This is what Stiles used to try and explain to me about all of you." sheriff replied

"Cool, maybe it's a message from Stiles. The real Stiles." Allison said. She's always been the optimistic one.

"You think there's any reason my name's on the king?" Derek asked.

"Well, you're heavily guarded. Though I guess the alarming detail is that you're one move from being in checkmate." I said.

"It's not a message from Stiles. It's a threat from the nogitsune." Chris stated.

"He's at the loft. That's what he's trying to tell us." Allison said.

"And he wants us to come there." I added in.

"Night's falling. This couldn't sound any more like a trap." Chris said.

"I don't think it is." Sheriff said.

"I think your opinion might be slightly biased, Sheriff."

"Hear me out. What we're dealing with here is basically someone who lacks motive. No rhyme, no reason, right?"

"Meaning what?" Derek asked.

"Our enemy is not a killer. It's a trickster. The killing is just a by-product." he finished.

"If you're trying to say it won't kill us, I'm not feeling too confident about that." I said truthfully.

"It won't. It wants irony. It wants to play a trick. It wants a joke. All we need to do is come up with a new punch line." he responded.

"The sun is setting, Sheriff. What do you have in mind?" Chris asked.

The sheriff explained his plan. I didn't know if it was going to work but I was gonna give it a try. Anything to save Stiles.
