Tyler's POV

I leave the scene at the front of the house and head over into the kitchen to collect my thoughts. I sat down at the island and put my head in my hands. This is Liza's fault. I never should have allowed her to stay with me. I knew it would bring trouble.

I shake my head.

No. This isn't her fault. This is Joey's father's fault. I can't blame the person who literally just got her entire life ripped out of her hands and is now stuck in a whirlwind of violence and trouble.

I knew what I was getting myself into when I let her stay, so now I have to deal with the consequences of that, and help keep her safe. She needs to be safe.

I stand up to go talk to Liza, but when I turn around, she is already standing right behind me. "Are you okay Tyler?" She asks nervously, obviously sensing my uncertainty of the situation. I nod my head and brush passed her, but she chases after me.

"Ty," She says, grabbing my wrist. I stop in my tracks, not facing her yet, waiting to hear what she's going to say next. "I need your help." I look at her and she takes a step back.

"What?" I say in a rushed tone. She hesitates and I soften up. She looks scared and I feel bad now for being cold. "What is it?" I add, in a much nicer tone this time.

She smiles half-heartedly. "I have a plan and I need back up." She sits me down back where I was at the island. She continues. "Getting the money for him didn't work, so we need another solution." She proceeds to explain to me what we are going to do. I listen to the plan and realize that she is actually pretty smart.

I can't help but agree with her. "Fine, I'm in." I say. "We just need a couple other people to help us out and someone to watch Melanie."

------

That night I drive over to the bar where I met Liza for the first time, as well as where my friends usually hang out. I walk into the bar and immediately head over to where they usually meet up.

When they see me, Jason, the one with the blonde surfer hair, stands up. He is also the one who got into the fight with that guy. When Jason walks over to me, I can instantly tell he is too drunk to function. He is basically falling over with every step he takes.

"Hey dude." Jason says and flops into my arms. "Where've ya been?" He slurs his words so badly that the entire sentence was basically one word.

"I've been busy Jay." I chuckle and toss him off me. He smiles and puts his arm over my shoulders.

"Doing who?" He hiccups. "I mean doing what?"He corrects himself, laughing. I roll my eyes and go over to my other friend Johnson. He doesn't drink so he is the man to talk to.

"Hey Johnson. Long time no see." He stands up as I walk over to him and we do the typical "bro" hug, as some might call it.

Johnson looks at Jason who is standing at the bar now, slapping the bar repeatedly to get the attention of the bartender. "What brings you here?" He asks, directing his attention back to me.

"I actually need a favour from you guys." I say, and we sit down at the table and get Jason to come over too so I can explain the situation to them. Not in full detail, of course, but just the basics.

When I finally finish explaining to them, they look both shocked excited. "So are you guys in?" I ask firmly.

Jason is the first one to speak. "Yeah, for sure. Anything for a lady." He seems to have sobered up a little bit so I don't have to worry about him forgetting this interaction. I step outside of the bar and take out my phone to tell Liza the good news.
