As soon as Steve drove us to some back alley, Skylar sprung off the back of his bike.

"Skylar..." Steve took a hesitant step towards her, but it was Skylar's turn to talk; she wanted answers."

"Steve, just tell what is going on," She pleaded. "Why is SHIELD trying to kill us?" Steve placed his hands gently on Skylar's shoulders.

"I don't know...but Skylar, those agents...Alexander Pierce, they're not SHIELD, they are HYDRA. They're after this hard drive that Nick have to me before he died."

"What drive? What's on it?"

Steve shook his head, "That's not important right now. But what I need you to do is go pick up a few things for us since we're pretty much fugitives now." Skylar couldn't quite put her finger on it, but she couldn't help but think Steve knew why this was so important. "Meet me in an hour. I'll send you the directions." And before I could question him any further, he quickly sped off.

Skylar's feet took her to her apartment to grab a quick change of clothes, and a stack of cash, just in case it was needed. She left as soon as possible, the thought lingering in her mind that there would be agents coming here to look for them.

The next destination was the hospital Steve sent her to, but Skylar's eyes could not place the super solider anywhere near. She paced up and down a hallway that smelled of a mixture of chemicals and medicines, until something small and metal caught her attention. It was the flash drive, hidden behind some bubble gum.

Well played Rogers.

The solider came to a halt in from of the vending machine when he realized something was missing. Skylar stood behind him and blew a bubble, hoping the captain would catch on. Steve turned around and roughly pushed the until her back was against a wall in some unknown room.

"Where is it?"

"It's safe." His grip on Skylar's arms grew tighter. "Do better!"

"Why do you have it?"

"I already told you."

"But Fury gave it to you for a reason, why?"

"You know what's on it?" He questioned.

"I don't know-"

"You're lying!"

"I just act like I know everything, Steve." Still, he wasn't buying into the act. Skylar sighed. "I know who killed Nick. Most people don't believe he exists, but he does, and he's called The Winter Soldier. He's credited with over two dozen assassinations in the last 50 years."

Steve's eyebrow raised in curiosity. "So he's a ghost story?" He concluded.

"But the thing is...I trained with him. We were p-partners for a while."

Steve began to interrupt her, but she prevented him from doing so. "5 years ago, I attempted to escape. I stole one of the cars there or something and somebody shot at my tires. I lost control and went straight over a cliff. I got out, but The Winter Soldier was there. I thought he was there to help-" A short laugh came from her throat. How stupid was I to think he was helping. "-We had grown close I guess so I thought he was helping, but he tried to kill me instead." Skylar pulled down the waistline of her jeans to reveal a scar just above her left hip. "Soviet slug, no rifling. No more bikinis." Skylar then noticed how close Steve was to her. His breath cascaded over her face.

"Yeah, I bet you look terrible in them now." Steve replied with sarcasm filling his tone.

Skylar knew what Steve was thinking and there's no way he'll survive this. "Going after him is a dead end. Trying to stop him will get you hurt, Steve. I know I've tried. Like you said, he's a ghost story."

The captain held his hand out to Skylar and she reluctantly took it. "Well, let's find out what the ghost wants."

The flash drive led them to search for answers at a nearby mall to track down where the signal of it was coming from. Their next journey would be to New Jersey. Steve was eager to leave; he new the location as soon as he saw the name. The two exited the Apple Store, but were brought to a stop when thet noticed Rumlow and his gang of operatives. Steve and Skylar fled to a flight of escalators and she knew it would only be minutes till the two of them were discovered. As hey went down the moving stairs, out of he corner of her eye Skylar noticed Rumlow on the opposite set of steps.

An idea popped into the anxious girls head and her body turned to stand in front of Steve's. This is going to be awkward. "Steve, kiss me." "I have a plan, just do it." The blondes hands grasped her face and brought his lips to Skylar's. She slid her arms around his neck, knowing this needed to be believable. To say the least, she was hesitant to pull away. Skylar felt something in that kiss. She couldn't explain what it was, but there was something.

"C'mon, we gotta go."
