Chapter 9
Harper's P.O.V
*Later that day
Brantley was getting the grill, the bonfire, and everything outside ready, while I was inside straitening things up and getting myself ready, since B told me that there wasn't anything for me to go.
I had just put on a little bit of foundation and mascara on, leaving my hair naturally wavy, when Brantley walked in to get a quick shower. He pecked my lips as he went by, "My mom should be here in an hour." He said.
"Okay."
After he went into the bathroom, I finished getting dressed. I put on a pair of jeans and my favorite boots, I also had on a t-shirt to wear under my, well Brantley's, old hoody in case I got hot later on tonight. This was my favorite one, it was an old bulldogs hoody that he gave me when we were together all those years ago. It seems like I'm always wearing his clothes, and I am, because they smell like him and I've missed him.
When I got finished, I went downstairs to let the dogs out before everyone started showing up. I walked around with them for a little bit before heading back towards the porch to see Brantley sitting on the porch swing looking out over the backyard and woods.
"Watcha doing?" I asked, sitting down beside him.
"Just relaxing, enjoying the view," he smirked throwing his arm around me to pull me closer to him, "Is that my sweatshirt?"
"Yeah, from our teenage years."
"I like seeing you in my clothes. You always look absolutely beautiful!"
"Thank you love!"
"I love you, I never stopped loving you. I have loved you since I was 15, a year before we started dating."
"I love you too, I never stopped. I always held out hope that we would find each other again."
I looked at him as he leaned down to kiss me. Within a couple of seconds we heard a throat clearing, we relunctley pulled apart to see Kolby standing behind us, with a big goofy grin.
"Why the hell did you interrupt us?" B questioned.
"It's disgusting to see my brother like that." Kolby answered.
"Get used to it." Brant and I answered.
"Harper?" Kayleigh asked as she walked out of the house.
"Hey Kayl," I said getting up to give her a hug.
"What are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same thing, but I already know the answer. I'm back with Brantley though."
"Back?"
"Yeah, we were together a long time ago, before he went too Nashville and became Mr. hot shot."
"And I'm just learning of this why?"
"I just never got around to telling anyone, Audrey didn't even know until a couple days ago. Why didn't you tell me about Kolby?"
"I didn't think you would know who he was."
"I know you're not from here originally, but this is Jefferson. Kolby and Brantley were my neighbors growing up."
"I guess I never realized how small this town really is. I came from one small town to another. I guess it just wasn't as small as Jefferson."
"B, we need to get the dogs in." After we got them in we continued catching up. Once Momma B got here, Kayleigh and I helped her prepare stuff in the kitchen. By the next hour, everyone had made it over and we were sitting around the fire while Brantley and the band had a jam session.
Closer to 11 Becky left, along with a few others. By 1:30 everyone was gone and it was just Brantley, me and the dogs. I was beyond exhausted and B could tell.
"Let's go to bed, you're tired." He said, picking me up bridal style and carrying me into the house.
"I'm not used to being up this late." I said sleepily.
"Go to sleep darling" and with that I drifted off to dream land.
********************************************************************************************I woke up realizing I was late. Late for what one may ask. I was late for that monthly gift most women hate. I was panicked, Brantley and I hadn't been back together long enough to have a child. I didn't even know if Brant wanted kids. I know I have been having baby fever, but that didn't mean I wanted kids this soon. I wanted to see where things would go with Brantley, especially with our past.
I got up and decided to run to the store, even though I could have a blood test done at work. I didn't want the girls to know until I was sure of something and in this town news like this would spread like wild fire. Going to the store without Brantley asking questions was easy since he had went to the deer stand early this morning and he wouldn't be back until after lunch.
I went to a store a couple of towns over where no knew who I was. The clerk at the register congratulated me, I just nodded my thanks, even though this wasn't planned I would still love this baby and we would make it work some how.
I got back to the house around 11 and ran to the bathroom and barricaded myself in with five different tests. I layed them out and made sure I understood the signs of them. I soon got busy peeing on the little sticks and set the timer on my phone for five minutes. I sat on the edge of the bath tub with my head in my hands praying to God that he would do what he saw best for Brantley and I, to give us what we could handle and to make us better people.
My phone dinged, I got up and looked at each test... Positive, positive, positive, positive, positive... Looks like me and Brant will be parents in about nine months. Where we ready for this? I guess we have no choice but to be.
I was still staring at the tests when B came in from hunting, "Babe, I'm back." I heard him walking up the stairs. What was I going to do with all these tests? Was I ready to tell him? Hell no. Do I have to? Yes I do. "Babe, where are you?" he asked.
"In the bathroom, I'm about to come out." I told him through the door. I walked out knowing my cheeks were tear stained.
"Babe, what's wrong?"
"I don't know if anything is yet."
"Then why are you crying?"
"Come here." I walked into the bathroom with Brantley following.
"What is it?" I just pointed to the tests laying on the vanity, "You're pregnant?" I couldn't say anything, I just nodded. "I'm going to be a daddy? This is fantastic babe! I'M GOING TO BE A DADDY!"
"So you're happy?"
"Happy? I'm ecstatic!"
"Is that a tear I see mr tough guy?"
