“Otaru, you never told us. Who's going to be the decoy?” Hana asked. This was probably the most important part of the plan. If we didn't know who the decoy was when the time came to execute our plan, then, it would fail since then our plan would be completely useless and, not really plan-like.
“Good question. Either one of us could be the decoy... but the decoy would have to have certain decoy-y qualities that would make people think they're weak,” the only boy in our team said. “Like... I don't know. Look like they only care about their appearances and that they wanted to become a ninja because the boy they have a crush on was in the Ninja Academy.”
“Are you suggesting that the decoy would have to be either Kyuri or me, and that we would have to be a Sasuke fangirl! Of all people! I don't think Kyuri would be a Sasuke fangirl, she's related to him for crying out loud. Otaru! You want me to be the decoy, don't you?” Hana said angrily.
“Hana, calm down. At one point, Otaru or I would have to be the decoy. This is just for now. Okay?” I tried to explain to her, so she would calm down. I was surprised to find out that it actually worked.
“You're right, Kyuri. I just got lost my head there. Sorry Otaru.”
“Hey, I know what you get like when you're hungry, Hana, so I harbour no hard feelings from your outburst. I will get you back... eventually,” Otaru threatened as he took a huge bite out of his fish. “So, Hana, you're the decoy whether you like it or not so deal with it, got it?”
Hana sighed heavily, but nodded. She would definitely have to play the part of a helpless female really well. I knew that even though she didn't take being a ninja seriously since she never wanted to be one, she wasn't completely helpless.
“At least we worked on your kunai throwing...” I said, trying to lighten the mood a little bit, but I could tell it didn't work. That was the last time I tried to be optimistic about something. I turned my head down to face my food and hesitantly took a bit out of it. I wasn't expecting Otaru to be the one to offer to cook us a meal, do I was a bit hesitant to try something. I knew that not a lot of men took up the art of cooking. Especially if they were only twelve years old. Unless they had a feminine side to them.
To my surprise, the fish didn't taste bad at all. It was flaky and cooked so it had a little bit of a light golden brown colour to it. Otaru probably noticed the shocked look on my face when I hate taken a bit of the fish and grinned.
“See, I'm not that bad of a cook.” You could hear the proudness in his voice.
“No... you aren't a bad cook. I wasn't expecting it to taste good.”
The smile quickly faded from the blondes face and it quickly turned into a glare. “Thanks, it's good to know that my teammates have the utmost confidence in my skills,” he said, voice dripping with sarcasm.
“Okay.”
“Don't start fighting guys. Otaru, the meal really is great and thanks for cooking. Kyuri, at least have some faith in your teammates' skills, okay? We're not complete wimps that don't know how to do anything,” Hana scolded us, the tone in her voice was a bit scary, so Otaru and I both nodded and quickly finished the rest of out fish. “Good. I'm glad that's been sorted out.
“So, for our plan... am I just going to stand around, acting completely useless while you two hide or something? Or am I actually going to be doing something?”
“Well... you could try making a lot of noise, and pretend to trip over a lot of things, like a klutz. It might attract some other ninja so they would be able to attack you with the utmost confidence nothing would happen. Besides, they would probably think that if a genin is wandering in the middle of the Forest of Death by themselves and acting like a complete klutz, they would probably not think much about the consequences of attacking, right? Hopefully... there could always be the person who would think that there's something fishy about it and hold back while attacking. But... we'll deal with that if that happens, okay?”
“Okay.” Hana nodded, she probably understood her role now.
“What about the both of us?” I asked.
“We will use the transformation jutsu to transform into a rock or something, or hide behind a tree until someone attacks. So, it's an ambush!” Otaru smiled.
“You do know it might not work, right?” I said to him, bluntly.
“What did Hana say about having faith in your teammates?” the blonde replied in a sing song voice.
I sighed. We were probably doomed.
