*Your POV*
Tears fall down your cheeks as you watch Garvoche being carried back into the barricade. You run over to him, take his hand, and hold it to your chest. Garvoche was just shot by the French soldiers as he was getting more gunpowder from some of the corpses. Everyone, including yourself, begged him to come back, but he didn't listen.

"You at the barricades listen to this," you hear the French army general yell. "The people of Paris sleep in their beds. You have no chance, no chance at all. Why throw your lives away?"

You look up and look at everyone. Your eyes lock with Marius's for a second before he looks back at Enjorlas, your older brother. Enjorlas is the mastermind behind the whole revolution and when he first told you about it, you whole heartedly supported him and wanted to help him. You two were the first two members of the ABC café, but soon more joined and became the group gathered here now.

"Let us die facing our foe," you hear Enjorlas say. "Make them bleed while we can."

"Make them pay through the nose," you hear someone say.

"Make them pay for every man," you say as you give Gavorche's hand a final squeeze before letting go of it.

"Let all those rise to take our place until the earth is free," you hear Enjorlas yell.

You smile as you look at your brother. He was always the one who could rally people, and now was the best time to possess that skill. But the peace is broken as the generals yells," Cannons!"

You rush over to the stockpile and grab a gun before running behind the barricade to where Marius is. Quickly loading it, you watch as Marius shoots his musket, gunfire ringing through the air. Marius turns around and you throw him a loaded musket as he throws you his empty one.

You quickly reload the gun. Everything is chaotic; people are running around and gunfire and cannons are the only sounds you hear.

You're about to hand Marius the reloaded gun when you see a French soldier on top of the barricade. Without thinking, you aim the gun and pull the trigger. The man falls, dead.

A ragged breath escapes as you realize what you just did. You just killed someone. Everything around you seems to slow down as the guilt begins to eat at you. "Why did I pull the trigger," you think. "I could have just yelled."

"Y/N," you hear a voice yell as a pair of strong hands grip your shoulders.

You blink and look to see Marius in front of you, concern in his eyes. "Are you okay," he asks.

Nodding, you reply,"Considering the circumstances, yes."

"Then you need to leave the barricade right now," he says, seriously.

You're shocked. "What no," you say. "I want to help!"

"The barricade is overrun," he says. "You need to escape while you can. Please, I can't let you die in here."

Tears begin to fill your eyes. "I can't let you die either," you say. Even though you haven't admitted it, you have had a huge crush on Marius for a long time now. So leaving the barricade without him wasn't an option.

"I would rather die knowing that your safe than live thinking you're dead," he says, his voice slightly quavering. "Please y/n. Do this for me."
