"These are really cool," Riker says in amusement.
"Um, thanks," I say, blushing. As I’m throwing a couple of things in a bag, I hear a click. "What are you doing?" I wonder.
"Taking a picture of these to put on Twitter." A few minutes later, my phone dings with a tweet notification.
@rikerr5: Look at these awesome edits made by a fan! Super cool, Abby
Thankfully, he doesn’t know my twitter.
"Hey Abby, do you have a twitter?" Crap.
"Um, yeah. It’s @LUV4LIFEAbs." He doesn’t say anything, just looks back down to his phone. Simultaneously, I hear two dings.
@rikerr5 is now following you!
@officialr5 is now following you!
"C’mon, we better get back to the hospital." He walks over, takes my bag from my bed, and throws it over his shoulder.
Before we walk out the door, I call out to my mom, "Bye mom! We’re leaving. I’ll text you later." I don’t stick around to see if she heard me or not. After a few minutes, we’re back at the hospital. Once we go back up in front of Ross’ room, I don’t see Stormie and Mark. "Where’d your mom and dad go?" I question.
"They went to talk to the nurse," Rydel says.
"Can I ask you guys for a favor?" I look at them all for approval. Once I see it, I continue. "I don’t want Ross being the hospital to affect you guys, and I don’t want you to lose practice as a band. I’ll stay here and keep him company for the few days he’s in here. Between you guys, you can get my school assignments, right?" They all look at each other, and I look at them with pleading eyes. "C’mon. It’s only for a few days, and I don’t want him to be alone." Much quieter, I add, "It’s my fault anyway." I hope no one hears, but Riker gives me a look that says we’ll talk later.
"We’ll think about it. Visiting hours are almost over, so we’re going to leave. Let’s go guys," Ryland says.
Everyone leaves except Riker. "What do you mean ‘It’s my fault anyway'?"
"He wasn’t supposed to be coming tonight. I convinced my mom to let him come. He shouldn’t have been in that spot when the car came through."
"You can’t blame yourself for this," Riker says gently.
"But it’s my-"
"No it’s not. Promise me that you’ll stop blaming yourself for this." I know I won’t, but I don’t tell him that.
"Fine," I tell him.
"Good. I’ll see you tomorrow." He kisses my forehead, then leaves.
