He went and poured a glass of warm water and handed it to Nathan. Nathan gratefully accept it and drank. "You know, I'm grateful to have a son like you who's independent to get a part-time job to help out but you're just a student." Jacob sighed and continued, "Don't push yourself too hard, okay?" Jacob got up and went around the island until he was beside Nathan. "I only have two sons in my life. I just don't want you to get hurt."
•Present Morning•
Nathan sighed knowing he made his father worried. He didn't mean to, but he just wants to help out.
Sorry, dad. He thought as he suddenly let out into fits of coughs.
Another memory flashed into his mind and it wasn't his father, but it was someone else unexpectedly.
Jadrianne.
•Flashback•
"You're a good son." She said, catching him off guard.
•Flashback End•
It was when she found him at the shop and told her about the reason he took up a part-time job. It only took a few minutes to realize that his mind went straight to her. It was as if the heat on his face was rising instead of his whole body.
He slammed his book down on the table in frustration. Why the heck did I even remember her? She's just a weirdo. Yeah, a weirdo. He thought as he ruffled his hair with his hands; not caring if it was going to be messy or not.
"You know, I'm starting to think you're some sort of masochist." a voice spoke; startling Nathan.
Speak of the devil and he shall appear. In this case, she shall appear.
Automatically, a scowl appeared on his face the moment he set his eyes on Jadrianne who stepped in and closed the door behind her. "Ugh, just shut up and I'm not a masochist." Nathan retorted. Jadrianne only shrugged as she made her way until she was leaning against the table beside his.
"I beg to differ since you look like the living dead. Just go home and take painkillers or something." She said as she just leaned against the table with her hands beside her on the edges of the table; supporting her weight. Nathan just slumped with his chin resting on his palm with his elbow supporting on the table while looking out the window to avoid looking at her.
"Studying is my painkiller." He answered back.
Among all times, she just had to be here. He thought, grumpily. She chuckled under her breath. What's so funny? Weirdo. He thought. "Well, you're obviously sick but I know you'd be denying that." She pointed out. "But you should know that driving yourself to a corner like that won't do you any good."
Who's she to tell me what to do? He scoffed and banged the table. "I don't need any advice from the likes of you. You don't know me." He felt her shifting from beside him, but he doesn't turn.
"Hmm, yeah, you're right. I'm new here and I don't know you all that well." She answered, simply.
Nathan huffed in triumph, thinking he won but he thought too soon when he felt something nearing him to his face. A warm breath hit his face which caused him to snap his head forward in surprise to see how close Jadrianne's face was with his. They were inches away.
"But I do want to." She told in a soft voice like only he could hear. She smirked with her teeth showing, mischievously. Nathan was shocked but he shook his head and his expression displayed annoyed all over.
"You . . . You . . . Go breathe at someone else's face!" He snapped but it was more to embarrassment than an irritation.
Jadrianne just chuckled and turned around to sit in her seat. He watched her sat down and when she did, he balled his hands into fists. That idiot is seriously worse than my fever. He thought. He decided to just brush the thought off and continue ignoring her presence and just read his book.
