Take the blood inside my veins that you have lost,
Take the skin from my body and sew up your gashes,
Take the will to rise from my first thought of morning

Take the food from my plate and fill your empty belly,
Take the money from my purse and fulfil your passions,
Take the light from my eyes and dab it upon your split lip

Take the glow from my cheeks and hide your black eye
Take the peace in my mind to sedate your sleepless nights
Take the love I hold in my heart to maintain your smile

Take the rib from my cage and weld it to your splintered one
Take the tears I shed for you and draw a warm bath to ease your pain
Take the lock from my door and fasten yours against the shouting

Take the words I hear you speak so gently from my memory
Take the sanity I conserve merely for the times when you lose yours
Take the humanity I preserve simply for the times when you consider the worst
