Mount Justice
It's been two weeks since the incident with Canary, and I've yet to actually associate with the team. I had a hell of a time trying to convince Dick to even allow me to come back. And when I finally did he was playing bulldog so much that no one would come around me. Needless to say that I've literally had zero time to try and explain myself; in their eyes I'm mysterious and untrustworthy.
And I don't blame them.
All I've received so far have been tense stances, and calculating eyes. Dick's been trying to make it better for me, to fill the awkwardness but going on solo missions with Bruce isn't helping. Much to Robin's dismay, Bats decided that he was needed on a small recon mission. Dick promised he would only be gone for about three days but Bruce said he'd be gone for at least five.
So here I sit, in the good old cave of Mount Justice sitting on a support beam of the ceiling reading a book with my ear buds in; alone. I sat crisscross leaning back against the cool cave wall hiding in the shadows. I felt kind of silly decked out in my hero outfit while sitting alone doing something I could do at home in my pjs but I didn't want Alfred to worry.
"H-hey Black Cat." The green girl known as M'gann, called out to me nervously. Looking up at her I gave her a calculating look seeing as how she had floated up to me and was currently closing in midair before replying. Surly this spot couldn't be her reading spot as well?
"Yes Miss Martian, do you need something?" I questioned with a curious face, but for some reason she drew back like I had yelled at her. Immediately feeling disappointed in her reaction I looked back at my book Inwardly signing as I rubbed my left temple.
See, no matter the words they always come out wrong!
"U-um I was wondering if you'd like to come and meet the team. Since you are going to be part of it." She put a fake smile on and gestured towards the opening that lead to the kitchen area. The very place I had avoided since the entire team liked to gather in there. Looking past her I listened carefully to the banter of Kid Flash and Artemis while they argued over who knows what.
Thinking it over I concluded it would be better to do this now rather than whenever Dick came back. He was so overprotective. I smiled slightly up at her, and she seemed taken back by my display. Seeming to realize my answer before I even spoke she gave me a true smile.
"I'd like that. Thank you Miss Martian."
She began her decent down to the floor very gracefully while I simply jumped. It was a good 30 foot drop but I just made sure to bend my knees when I stuck the landing. After all the knees were incredibly easy to injure in this kind of work.
The green girl started open mouthed while I just stood and stretched my arms above my head. After a second of silence she cleared her throat and began floating towards the large opening. We filed in the larger room looking up at the group who had formed around the combination of a kitchen and living room. I noted everyone was there; Aqualad, Aquaman's protege, Artemis, Green Arrow's protege, Superboy, Superman's younger clone, Kid Flash, The Flash's protege, and of course Miss Martian, Martian Manhunter's protege. I nodded towards them in greeting but just as Miss Martian had, some drew back in annoyance.
Totally blew that first introduction
M'gann's eyes widened as she also began to stare at me. I stared on indifferent waiting for the silence to be broken. Why had they asked me out here if they're just going to gawk. One in particular caught my attention; Superboy. He was standing tall, his arms crossed, chin high. The perfect image of anger and hatred. The way he stared at me was almost haunting; watching, waiting for me to become a threat. Yet in his eyes I saw something that doesn't seem to fit in; understanding.
