Chapter 20 : When You Least Expected
"So what did you say?"
I twirled my hair around my fingers and bit my lips. "Erm.. I said yes."
Amanda was on the phone. She was the second person whom I told about the proposal. Mama was the first person, of course. Amanda was estastic about it. She squealed in the phone. I laughed, amused at my bestfriend.
"Oh my god! I can't believe this is happening. I mean you were always saying you are not ready for a relationship. But now, barely half a month in a relationship, you are going to get marry. Oh my goodness! So are you excited about it?"
I giggled as I reach for Erma's pacifier which had fallen from her mouth. I inserted it back and let her chewed on it. Since her front teeth sprout out, Erma were even more excited to bite on everything she could get. I smiled when she took off her pacifier with her dainty little fingers and put it back on. She was such an adorable child. She looked more like me than Iman. Her almond shaped eyes and her sharp nose were exactly like mine. But she have Iman's smile.
"I am. But I am abit skeptical about this whole marriage thing. I'm scared Amanda. I'm scared if one day Shah will not acknowledge Erma as his own, after having our own kids. Or if he put too much love for Erma and ignore the others. Or if he will say bad things or call me names if we fight."
"Hey Alysa! Have he ever say all those things before? Have you ever fight and he call you names?"
I flipped my hair and put the phone in between my ear and my shoulder. Balancing the phone, I picked Erma up and cradled her to sleep. "No. We never fight. I wouldn't know."
"Alysa from the way I see, he's not that type of person to go around calling you names or show great or less attention to Erma or you. He is the perfect man. The only disadvantage is that he is too lovable by people that you may be ignored. And that is not a thing you should be worried about either. I'm sure he knows how to divide his attention."
"It seems like you know him better." I laughed.
"So you better get him before someone else did." Amanda joked as she giggled.
Suddenly the doorbell rang.
It might be Mama.
"Hey! Think my mum just got back. I call you again tomorrow." After saying our goodbyes, we hang up. I put Erma down in the baby cot and attended to the non-stop doorbell.
When I opened the door, Iman was standing out front, looking sluggishly drunk. He saw me opening the door and grabbed me by the hand. Letting himself in, he pulled me into the living room. I screamed and struggled but he was too strong. He slapped me once and asked me to keep quiet. I was scared on what was he about to do to me.
"Iman please stop. Please."
He pulled my hair and started to kiss my neck. I managed to push him and try to get away, but Iman was too fast. He dragged me by the legs, making me fall and pushed me face down to the floor. He had one arm around my neck and his another free hand grabbing my bottom. I heaved for air and struggled again.
"Stop struggling! You're only making things worse. With one move, I could snap your neck. You don't want me to kill you now, would you?"
Tears were falling down my cheeks and I stopped struggling. I could not talked as Iman's arm were still around my neck. I could not move either. I stayed laying face down on the floor while Iman pulled my pants down.
I was praying so hard for a miracle to happen. I was hoping my mum would reach home in time before anything happen.
But my hopes were just hopes.
Iman managed to get inside of me. He slapped me a few times when I struggled, and even punched my shoulder. I was too weak to do anything. All I could do was cry.
After satisfying himself, Iman went off. I was left alone on the floor, bashed up and tortured. My whole body was in pain. I tried to get up but I realised my left ankle was sprained. I dragged myself across the floor to get my handphone on the table.
I dialled my mum's number and informed her that Iman raped me.
"I'm coming home now."
