Chapter 8
“Do you want to go train?” I asked being the awkward person I am.
He nodded and we stood up. I grabbed my pack and walked out side by side with Gaara after locking my door. We didn’t want to be risked being spotted together as a couple, especially in broad daylight with huge crowds and people.
We got to a clearing with just nothing but sand, dust and rocks. I groaned in annoyance since the weather was like 97 degrees and rising.
“Do you want to practice evasion skills?” I asked since that’s what nearly got me killed in the first place.
He nodded and the cork for his gourd popped off. I got into a fighting stance, facing him.
“Start when you feel like it.” I said. He nodded and held his out his hand. Sand came of the gourd and hovered above him.
Clumps of sand came rushing to me and I gracefully avoided each shot of it. All of a sudden a huge ball of sand came into my direction.
My eyes widened and I quickly did a few hand signs and shouted “Substitution!” “Whoa. That was a close one.” I whispered to myself. I faced Gaara again and he sent larger bundles of sand in my direction. I dodged more and more and when I turned around I got hit in the back.
I fell on the ground and Gaara came rushing up to me since nobody else was there.
“Are you okay?” He quickly asked crouching down next to me. “Yeah, I’m fine. I should’ve acted sooner though.” I said chuckling.
He smiled and helped me up. I brushed the sand off of me and he pecked my cheek. “I’m sorry, Miyuki-chan.” He said. “Don’t worry about it. I should have paid better attention. After all, you learn from mistakes and I want to keep on training, let’s continue.” I said putting a hand on his shoulder as an act of reassurance.
“Are you sure?” He asked. I nodded and he walked back to where he was. He continued to throw sand at me and I kept on dodging.
“Okay, I think I’ve had enough evasion training.” I said facing him as the sand returned into his gourd. He nodded.
“Do you want to practice hand to hand combat?” I asked. “Are you sure? Because I’m not good when it comes to taijutsu.” Gaara said. “Don’t worry; I’ll help you out more.” I said.
“Okay.” Gaara replied nervously. I’m really good in close range and hand to hand combat.
I walked up to him and we both got into fighting stances. I sighed deeply and looked up at him. He looked a little nervous but sighed deeply as well.
I took the first punch and Gaara lifted his arm to block it. He pulled his arm back so he could strike me and I dodged him. I ducked and sweep-kicked Gaara off his feet. He fell to the ground and landed pretty hard. “Oh gosh! I’m sorry, are you okay?!” I said kneeling next to him.
His eyes were closed and he slowly opened them. He smirked and faced at me. “Well isn’t this the perfect example of déjà vu?” He said.
I smiled and nodded. “I think we had enough training for today.” I said.
“I guess.” He said.
I helped him stand up and I hugged him. He hugged back and stroked my back.
We pulled apart and we walked back to downtown Suna. People gave a cruel glare in our direction as we passed by, but I ignored them. However, Gaara looked pretty upset and frowned.
I faced him. “Hey, ignore them. They’re just judging you without knowing how you really are. If you were what they think you are, why would I love you?” I whispered so that only he could hear me.
He looked at me with hopeless eyes full of sadness and loneliness. “I don‘t know. Why do you?” He asked before disappearing in a swirl of sand. I stood there frustrated in the middle of the now deserted street.
“Why can’t you see that I do love you for who you are?” I whispered into the sand that caressed my hand gently.
All of a sudden, it stopped moving and fell out of my hand. ‘That’s strange…’ I thought.
“Miyuki Hiragana. I wish to speak with you.” I heard a voice say behind me.
I turned around and to my absolute horror saw the Kazekage standing in front of me.
