"Why? Why would you tell me this?"
"Simple. Why would you help an unknown cause?" Anton stood up without answering Teya's question fully. She didn't understand. Was he doing all this out of spite and for revenge or was it for some deeper purpose? Did he truly believe that he could change something in this werewolf world?
No, Teya brushed off all sympathy in her body. She was not going to side with her enemy. Anton was cruel and merciless, he was only trying to manipulate her. To get her to believe and trust in him.
Teya wasn't going to fall for the act. Even if his words held truth, the unmistakable veracity of Finn's mother's death; it was an undeniably wrongful act that Teya couldn't forgive.
Teya left the room feeling shaky. She hadn't touched food since this morning and now the late evening breeze carried the scent of her sweat and fears into the descending light. She had finally gained much of Anton's trust after working under him that she could step outside without guards. Even so, her fingers trailed over the band around her wrist. She couldn't remove it even if she tried. It registered her heartbeat, location and if she dared to try to shift it immediately released an electric current that'd paralyse her long enough for them to reach her.
Something felt off. She could smell it. It was like a ripple that had wavered in the distance. Then she was sprinting down the hallway with the glass windows on both sides. If anyone had been walking along here, they'd only have seen her scared expression in the reflection in the glass before she'd whiz past them. That was an 'if', and she was glad everyone was too busy eating dinner.
Teya's frantic footfalls landed on the floor, one after the other. She had gotten much too used to light treading and the only sound you'd hear were he heavy breaths.
Then gave the scream of a voice that Teya hadn't heard in a long time. It made her heart thrash around in her chest at the thought of someone forcing that noise out of a tired mouth.
No, this couldn't be happening. Soon she reached an area with a huge dome roof. It looked deserted until her eyes ran over the form of a hunched figure in the middle of the room. Hair hung down that covered a withered face. If it hadn't been for the stormy grey blue eyes, Teya might not have recognised her.
"Mum!" Teya sobbed with a hand covering her mouth. She was too scared to lift up her mother's head. She didn't want to see the bruises that painted her mother's face purple or the tin line of dried blood that split her mother's face in half.
"Oh, you're here."
Teya growled at the voice. She had thought it would be Anton, towering over her but it wasn't. A small round face with eyes that hardly glanced around but she knew he had a view on everything. Innocent posture but his hands were covered in blood. Everything about him was wrong.
"What did you do?!" Teya snarled. Her body was furiously shaking like she had influenza. She couldn't control it, nothing about her could be controlled. Her mind narrowed in on one thought.
Kill him.
Teya lunged without hesitation. How dare he hurt her mother? Her mother who had been kind and caring, who could hardly hurt a damn insect; why was she strapped in a chair bleeding? This was all wrong. So very wrong.
"What are you talking about? She's the one who tried to attack me." Finn easily sidestepped Teya's lunges. Her outstretched claws snagged air time after time.
Lies. They were all liars. Every single filthy rogue was a liar. Hate filled Teya and a churning thought in her stomach made her move faster. She wanted to wrap her hands around his throat. She wanted to tear him to pieces. Her hands reached out further, faster. The tips of her claws touched soft flesh. She could feel the slow trickle of blood seeping from the wounds on his face. How she loved to damage his smirking face.
