I tried to push myself up again, but the force the foot had on my back was too strong for me. I tilted my head to look in front of me and saw a pair of boots standing right next to the one that was holding me down. It was a feminine design, so I assumed it had to be a female. It had to be Nanaba. She was the last remaining female member of the Legion, so it had to be, and I was right. She was the one laughing and making the comment, but that still left me in confusion over who the person was that held me down.
The one boot I could see was a small size, further details weren't too clear to me. Even the color was vague, because I could barely breathe. My head felt like exploding as more pressure was forced upon my back. I couldn't even hear my surroundings through the buzzing in my ears this feeliny gave me.
I swerved my arm over the ground in reach for the boot, until I saw the details more clearly. It had a dark-brown color and a leatherly-look, but what shocked me the most was the emblem that was sowed on it. It was the same emblem every member of the Corps had on their boots, two wings layered over eachother. One white, one blue, with a shield-like design behind the two wings. I gasped for breath as this discovery pierced through my mind.
Gunther was with me, just like Erd. Historia was dead, so only Levi was the remaining option to own this boot. This blew my mind, as I never thought to experience backstabbing from our own boss. His boot forced less pressure on me after a while, so I could hear again. The first thing I heard were flames burning, along with another person walking in a slow pace towards the scene.
'Levi, let him go. It has no use to hold him down,' a man said, but I couldn't really tell if it was Erwin or Mike. Levi moved his foot next to his other one and I quickly crawled up to see Levi and Nanaba staring at me.
I had never felt this betrayed. To see him standing with them in a calm and assured state, was not something I had assumed would happen. My heart ached. It hurt, badly.
Behind the two stood Mike, with his arms crossed and parts of his hair covering his eyes. I gulped nervously and looked behind me, to see Erd and Gunther with both their hands ready to grab their guns.
'What is happening?' I asked with a obvious tone of confusion in my voice, 'what are you doing, Levi?' I set a step towards him and received a revolver being aimed at me. A revolver that belonged to Levi.
'Stand back. Don't come any closer,' he said. His voice sounded scared and unnatural, unlike the voice I was used to hearing. 'I don't want to hurt any of you.'
He spoke every word slowly, as if he was on the edge of breaking, but still keeping it in. His lower lip was shaking after talking and he was no longer frowning. Instead, his eyebrows stood worringly. This scared me. What happened in there?
'Levi. This is not like you. Remember, the Legion is our enemy. We have tried to overpower them for years now, how can you just blindly stand at their side? Did the Corps mean nothing to-'
'Shut up, Gunther. This is none of your business,' Levi rudely interrupted. He seemed honestly pissed off, but I couldn't dare myself to think he really meant to be like that toward his teammate.
'Levi, let's go,' Mike said and I saw Levi closing his eyes in frustration, sigh deeply and then turn around ninety degrees. Over his shoulder, he looked at the three of us.
'Hanji's in lead now. I'm no longer going to be referred to as your "boss". Goodbye,' Levi mumbled, turned around fully and walked away with Nanaba and Mike at his side.
I felt anger welling up inside of me. How can Levi do this to us? Why did he do this to us? After all this time, after everything we did, he gave up and joined our enemy. Why did I even think that it'd be a good idea to join this group? They're mafias, for crying out loud. The mafia has always been a dangerous organisation and now I was right in the middle of it. My mum had even taught me from a young age to not trust strangers blindly, but since I've heard of them through Armin, one of my best friends, I went on with it thinking it'd be the best for me. Even Armin believed it was a good idea to listen to people you found in a dark alleyway.
The anger I felt quickly rose. It was boiling and demanding to be released. But all I did was watch Levi leave us. 'Levi...' I whispered to myself.
I had to do something. At least one thing to show I want Levi to stay with me. With us. With the Corps. This was so unlike him, so I didn't trust it for one bit.
My feet started to move rapidly after each other. My whole body shook step after step. 'Levi!' I yelled. He spinned around and faced me in the blink of an eye. He didn't look happy, but angry and frightening.
'Stay. Back. Brat,' he spat out the last word harder than ever before, only to have his expression turn soft again, or well, as soft as Levi can make it look.
I started to tear up, but didn't stop running. Underneath all my breaths I whispered his name, telling him not to leave me.
But when I almost reached him, Mike pulled a gun at me. 'Stay back,' he said in a threatening voice. I fell to my knees. Then the tears fell.
Levi looked over his shoulder. He looked defeated and sad.
'Why do you betray us?! Levi, please! Don't leave me...' I yelled, making the last sentence sound a bit softer. His only response was his head turning back and walking further, with Mike and Nanaba at his side.
